Out of School Care
We started the year as we intended to go
on! Busy, fun-packed and designed to make
memories. Lots of memories. So many of
the things we do in Out of School Care are
intended to provide a range of opportunities
to the children who spend time with
us. There is the notion that we babysit
or that we are an extension to school
where we carry on teaching. What we do
encompasses all of the things that children
would do if they didn’t spend time with us.
We strive to create a ‘home from home’ in
our wonderful old school master’s house.
Just as families plan days out and places to
go and see, so do we.
When we plan our vacation programs we ask
the children what they would like to do and,
just like in a family, there are disagreements
and contrasting points of view. We listen
carefully to the things the children talk about,
the games they play and the interests and
hobbies they have. The themes we then
explore and the activities we create are
directly from the children.
One of the key elements for the excursions
and incursions in 2018 has been to connect
the children with Perth. For the children to
become tourists in their own city. Viewing
something we take for granted through
different eyes provides a sense of excitement
and those yearned for ‘WOW’ moments.
There was the open top tour bus through
Perth followed by an ice-cream at Elizabeth
Quay or the trips to the Zoo. We searched
for escapee prisoners in the Fremantle prison
and ate fish and chips looking out over the
ocean.
In the April holidays we extended our scope
to include
