PR E PA R ATORY S C HO OL Out of School Care We started the year as we intended to go on! Busy, fun-packed and designed to make memories. Lots of memories. So many of the things we do in Out of School Care are intended to provide a range of opportunities to the children who spend time with us. There is the notion that we babysit or that we are an extension to school where we carry on teaching. What we do encompasses all of the things that children would do if they didn’t spend time with us. We strive to create a ‘home from home’ in our wonderful old school master’s house. Just as families plan days out and places to go and see, so do we. When we plan our vacation programs we ask the children what they would like to do and, just like in a family, there are disagreements and contrasting points of view. We listen carefully to the things the children talk about, the games they play and the interests and hobbies they have. The themes we then explore and the activities we create are directly from the children. One of the key elements for the excursions and incursions in 2018 has been to connect the children with Perth. For the children to become tourists in their own city. Viewing something we take for granted through different eyes provides a sense of excitement and those yearned for ‘WOW’ moments. There was the open top tour bus through Perth followed by an ice-cream at Elizabeth Quay or the trips to the Zoo. We searched for escapee prisoners in the Fremantle prison and ate fish and chips looking out over the ocean. In the April holidays we extended our scope to include
