With the commencement of Term 2 it was good to welcome the Rev ’ d Barry Moss ( Father Barry ) as Chaplain at the School . He had been enjoying a period of long service leave since he completed his ministry as Chaplain at Perth College at the end of 2016 ; a period of leave he used fruitfully , among other activities , to work on extensions and alterations to his family ’ s home .
Father Barry joins us with a wealth and variety of experiences as a priest in parishes and schools , while in his earlier years he worked in medical administration . He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Medical Record Administration from Curtin University which he used as the basis of his employment at Royal Perth , Osborne Park and Swan District hospitals between 1989 and 1995 . In 1996 he commenced his priestly formation for the Diocese of Perth completing a Bachelor of Theology from Murdoch University as part of that process . He was made a deacon in the Church of God in February , 1999 , and later that year was ordained priest .
His first appointment as a priest was to St Mark ’ s Anglican Parish at Bassendean where he was for six years before taking on a role as Chaplain , John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School , in 2005 . Within the School he had a particular focus on Primary School pastoral care , chapel services and religious education programs . He also held an appointment as Associate Priest within the Parochial District of Mirrabooka-Nollamara which shares the chapel with John Septimus Roe School as its place of worship .
In 2008 he was appointed Rector , St Patrick ’ s Anglican Church , Mt Lawley , to which he added responsibilities as Chaplain , Perth College Junior School , in 2010 . In 2012 he became the full-time chaplain at Perth College , a period of time during which he completed a Diploma in Education ( Primary ) from Edith Cowan University .
Father Barry joins us with a wealth and variety of experiences as a priest in parishes and schools while in his earlier years he worked in medical administration .
Father Barry lists as one of his many hobbies motors and machines of all kinds , cars , buses , trains and planes ; somewhat differently he is a keen and very able chess player . He also enjoys good food , be that at a restaurant , or prepared by himself !
His arrival has been most welcomed by Father Philip , the Senior Chaplain , who for the last three terms since Amma Lisa left at the end of Term 2 , 2016 , has been undertaking the chaplaincy role within the School on his own .
