COMMUNITY

Friends of the Preparatory School ( FOPS )

The FOPS committee along with the Liaison Parents welcomed new parents to the Preparatory School at various orientation functions early in the term , as well as at the meet the teacher night .
FOPS had a busy start to the year , supporting the Dolphin carnival and the Quarter carnival , providing catering for parents who attended .
The FOPS Family Welcome BBQ was a fantastic success attended by around 400 members of the community . Families enjoyed great food prepared by FOPS and its wonderful volunteers . Parents enjoyed some musical entertainment by the talented Mitch Thomas while they mingled and met other families in their year groups .
The children enjoyed a monster inflatable waterslide and obstacle course , with an array of great food and fun . It was a wonderful night of friendship and camaraderie enjoyed by all who attended .
Our mothers and all those mothering our children were celebrated at the FOPS Mothers ’ Day Morning Tea on Friday 12 May . Children celebrated with their mothers and grandmothers , enjoying a picnic style morning tea in the Naturescape area . The choir performance , led by Dr Saxby and Mr Pervan , was an absolute treat . FOPS is grateful to the teaching staff for affording the mothers the opportunity of seeing their children in their classrooms , where they were able to celebrate their work together .
We look forward to our upcoming events this term and to the rest of the year .

Guildford Rowing Association – BPA Spanish Fiesta

It was an eventful week leading up to this year ’ s Guildford Rowing Association ’ s fundraising dinner .
Perth received record rain fall in the lead up to the event and the Swan River burst its banks , resulting in massive flooding throughout the Swan Valley . It was touch and go as to whether we would be able to host our annual event at the Rowing Shed because of mosquitos and the pungent odour due to the receding flood waters .
It turned out that all the worry was for nothing and it was a beautiful night , as always . It was made even more pretty by the river being so high .
This year ’ s theme was Spanish Fiesta . Lots of people got into the theme and we had some interesting and beautiful costumes .
Guests received sangrias on arrival and fabulous tapas , paella and churros supplied by Arte Paella , who did a fabulous job .
As always , our background music and dancing tunes were performed by the band Flashback , who this year also donated their services as an auction item .
As well as being a great social occasion , the aim of the night is to raise some money for the rowing program and the boys . Nada Edwards , President of FOSS , did a fabulous job rounding up some wonderful auction items and we raised a great amount for the shed . Thank you to all the families and businesses that donated . I would like to give a special mention to Tanya Swick , who stepped in at the last minute and wrapped all the fabulous raffle prizes and made sure all the paper work for the auction was completed .
Thank you to all the parents and staff who came along and helped to make it such a successful night .
