SPORT Rugbyrun-down Pre-season Training Days 17-19 April The pre-season started on Friday 17 April, in the Foundation Pavilion, with 85 students keen to get their skills up to speed after an Easter break, giving up three days of their holiday to their school sport. On Saturday all players and parents travelled to the Rugby WA Headquarters, where the players trained in the same gym as their heroes. After a hot day of training, the boys enjoyed a bit of down time with their dads, enjoying activities such as rugby, golf and tower building, with the Guildford Grammar School coaches facilitating all sessions. That night over 200 players and parents watched the Western Force take on the Stormers from Cape Town. The pre-season training session finished on Sunday with a round of matches for all year groups at the Perth Bayswater Rugby Club a fine end to the weekend. Back at school and into the season and Week 1 saw all coaches and players keen to build on their early efforts with the preseason games and to put into practice all that the coaches had been working on. This season we have introduced video analysis, to help us to understand our play. Each week the 1st XV and one other team have a lunch time analysis of the prior week’s match with Mr Cooke. 44 Our coaching staff for the season are: • 1st XV, Mr Naylor with Mr Peters. • Year 7, Mr Fawcett Parent support at the training days and matches has been great and we have started the year with Year 10-12 parents involved in cooking a BBQ for home games. • Year 8, Mr Moss • Year 9, Mr Heyes • Year 10, Mr King • 2nd XV, Mr Watt David’s Cricket Success Mr Deon Moss Director of Rugby Old Guildfordian David Moody (Wb 08-12) has taken his cricket to a new level in season 2014/15. David has represented the WA Under-23 team, the Cricket Australia XI, the Prime Minister’s XI and an Australian XI. Regular strong performances culminated in his selection for the Western Warriors in the final three qualifying matches of the Sheffield Shield. His debut against NSW was outstanding, with figures of 4-60 and 3-22. David is the first Old Guildfordian to represent WA at first-class level since Kade Harvey (St 85-92) was selected in 1994. We wish David continued success with his fine cricket career. Find out more at https://au.news.yahoo. com/thewest/sport/a/27541082/youngpace-ace-moody-elevated-to-the-top-tier/
