We dared to
On Saturday 3 May, 154 Old Boys,
parents and hockey supporters attended a
spectacular gala dinner function themed,
“Dare to Dream”. The night was all about
celebrating hockey at Guildford Grammar
School, from 1955 when hockey entered
the PSA, through to today, and we looked
forward to what will be a very exciting
future when a visualisation of the new
synthetic hockey surface was unveiled.
Lloyd Tonkin’s 32 years of employment was
acknowledged by the Headmaster and a
special presentation was made to Lloyd as a
thank you for this contribution to hockey at
Guildford Grammar School.
Special guest and current Australian Men’s
Hockey team captain, Mark Knowles, was
interviewed by the Master of Ceremonies,
Old Boy and Olympian, Shane Tonkin.
Mark gave the audience an insight
into one of the most successful
Australian sporting teams and how the
Kookaburra’s should go at the World
Cup being held in The Hague in June
2014.
The evening also celebrated the
Guildford Grammar School Champion
Hockey Team 1955 – 2013, as
announced by Mr Len Fernandes.
Many thanks to Tracey Roki, Gillian
MacDonald, Graeme Plummer, David
Williams and Len Fernandes for the
incredible job of organising such a
stunning event.
