Clark Wight

Head of Preparatory School
Mr Clark Wight has held the position of the Head of Preparatory School for the last five years and during this time has had an extraordinary and long-lasting impact on the Preparatory School , the students and staff . To say he will be missed is an understatement . Fortunately , Mr Wight is handing over the reigns to Dr Holly Miller as he begins his new role of innovation and leadership , continuing to work closely with the School .
What are the values that drive you ? Authenticity , connection and joy .
What do you like most about your job ?
I love interacting with the students the most , watching their enthusiasm , joy , creativity and crazy ideas . I greatly appreciate the sense of community at the School , there is a sense of belonging and inclusivity that I haven ’ t experienced in other workplaces . And also , the power of nature in our amazing grounds .
What three words would you use to describe your role ?
Future-focused , curiosity and growth . All three words encompass the students , staff and the School community .
In one sentence , describe what Guildford Grammar School means to you .
A sense of connection to people , land and purpose .
What do feel gratitude for this year ?
Closed borders ! I am so grateful to our team of teachers , admin staff and educational assistants . We were able to manage this year because of our amazing team and their drive to keep going and persevere through challenges with wonder and joy .
What are your biggest achievements within the role ?
As a group in the Preparatory School , we have created a culture of mutual respect .
We work hard and have fun at the same time . We ’ ve brought curiosity , voice , wonder and student voice back into the School . I am also very proud of our open door policy – I love the fact that the students come by my office just to chat !
What are your most memorable moments during your time as Head of Preparatory ?
Coming together as a community and community events , such as Grandparents Day , the Christmas Carols Concert and Quarter Carnivals . I love seeing students do stuff they haven ’ t done before – embracing courage through vulnerability and giving things a go .
What are your plans for the future ?
Continue to work with the School and find ways to innovate and create opportunities for students and staff . I am looking forward to running our educational summit , conducting leadership training and getting back into the speaking circuit . I also hope to finish writing my book on raising boys .
