The benefits of swimming

Swimming has been called the perfect exercise . It is an all-encompassing workout that delivers a wide range of physical , mental and social benefits . It ’ s also great for combatting our inevitable hot Western Australian summer !
Benefits include :
• Swimming is remarkable for physical recovery ; its low impact allows muscles and joints to operate in an optimal environment for increased movement , providing less resistance . Swimming is often recommended to strengthen various muscle groups across the body and to stimulate joints in recovery regimes .
• Swimming is a low impact activity that delivers all the benefits of an aerobic workout , without any damaging impact on joints .
• Swimming complements other training as it improves strength , stamina and flexibility to help improve overall fitness .
• Swimming can help improved mental health and wellbeing as it is meditative and therapeutic in nature , often stimulating a relaxation response similar to yoga , which can help naturally alleviate stress and depression .
Our aquatic environment at Guildford Grammar School focuses on instilling positivity in the water with engaging and fun activities designed to build physical , social and safety skills .
Our Learn to Swim program is open to everyone in the community and provides the opportunity to progress and develop knowledge , understanding and skills in both swimming and water safety .
