House Competitions
Although 2020 was a particularly challenging year , the Senior School Houses embodied incredible spirit and pride , whilst demonstrating the powerful and steadfast Guildford spirit , as each of the eight houses competed for the coveted annual prizes .
There are four highly competitive accolades to be won among the Senior School Houses ; each representative of an important aspect of school life recognised at Guildford Grammar School . Traditionally highly competitive , the commitment and enthusiasm exhibited at the various house events this year was admirable , and all houses deserve praise and acknowledgement for their efforts throughout 2020 .
Gladstone Cup ( Academic )
In 2020 , the recipient of the Gladstone Cup was Harper House . The Gladstone Cup is awarded to the house which demonstrates a strong commitment to academic performance , where points gathered from effort indicators and grades between Semester 2 , 2019 and the progress reports of Semester 2 , 2020 reveal a victor .
Cock House Cup ( Sporting )
The recipient for the 2020 Cock House Cup was Stirling House . This award is presented to the house which performs top in cumulative sporting pursuits , including summer and winter house carnivals , swimming and cross-country events .
Students ’ musical performances contributed to their Houses ’ Centenary Cup points .
Centenary Cup ( Cultural )
Freeth House was the recipient of the Centenary Cup , for their fine achievements in the cultural aspects of school life . The scores are calculated by adding the points gathered from cultural events , including chess , drama , public speaking , debating and the music eisteddfod .
Council Shield ( Overall best performing house )
The Council Shield is awarded to the house which has the greatest overall performance across the range of academic , sporting and cultural endeavors . In 2020 , the winner of the Council Shield was Bennett House for their outstanding efforts and achievements across the board . The winner of the Council Shield is calculated by observing the accumulation of overall points rewarded from all house events across the academic year .
