Senior Academic Honour Society 2020
Every year , students in Year 12 are eligible for inclusion in the Senior Academic Honour Society ( SAHS ). Dr Harris and Mr Lawson spend an evening immersing themselves in a complicated calculation to work out whose results have earned them a place in this prestigious society . Entry is based on grades reported at the end of Year 11 and the end of Semester 1 in Year 12 , therefore summarising 18 months ’ worth of academic achievements .
In 2020 , ten students achieved sufficiently impressive results and were awarded entry to the Society . These students are Jade Begovich ( Sc ), John Carter ( Wb ), Jeremy Choong ( Fr ), Nathan Hazle ( Sc ), Alexander Jones ( Ha ), Samuel Morrison ( He ), Trent Sherlock ( Be ), William Tang ( Sc ), Charlie Weston ( He ) and Terence Win ( St ).
Despite COVID-19 restrictions , we were happy to have the opportunity to hold a celebratory evening in the Pavilion for new members of the Society and their families .
Dr Harris shared her four success criteria for life ( have a purpose , find joy , fight with courage , get help if you need it ). This was followed by a speech written and delivered by Old Guildfordian and boarder , Fraser Pensini , ( He 2010-2014 ) who was inducted into the SAHS in 2014 . He spoke movingly about his university career so far and the hurdles he has overcome . Fraser ’ s speaking fee was donated to the Royal Flying Doctor Service , a charity dear to his heart , coming from a remote town in Western Australia .
Previous members of the SAHS have gone on to many and varied futures in different academic disciplines , and we are confident that this year ’ s students will take the values they have learnt at Guildford Grammar School and use their academic talents and gifts to good effect . We look forward to learning how they go on to make a difference in the world .
