NAIDOC Week celebrations

We celebrated NAIDOC Week in September , with events and activities to celebrate the history , culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples .
The week commenced with the raising of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags by siblings Beau ( 11Fr ), Isiah ( 8Fr ) and Myah ( 7Fr ) Wuruki .
At a special assembly , Mr Barry Maguire performed a Welcome to Country , followed by performances by the Boodjar Bidi dance group .
Students used native flora to dye t-shirts , which were available for purchase . The proceeds of the t-shirt sales went towards procurement of a native species of plant to revegetate the school grounds , tying into this year ’ s NAIDOC Week theme of ‘ Heal Country ’.
Our Indigenous students treated the Senior School staff to a delicious morning tea made with bush foods such as rosella , bush plum and lemon myrtle .
NAIDOC week rounded off with a screening of the movie ‘ Sweet Country ’, an Indigenous free dress day , face painting , and a bush tucker BBQ lunch .
