Archie Weller
St George ’ s House 1968-1975
Centenary Medal for service to Australian society and literature . Award winning writer of novels , short stories and screen plays . One such novel was made into the AFI award winning film Blackfellas and the novel republished to coincide with the opening of the film . In the 2000 AFI Awards , Confessions of a Head Hunter , written by Weller and Sally Riley , won the Best Short Fiction Film award and was nominated for Best Screenplay in a Short Film .
Malcolm Wells
Woodbridge House 1987-1991
Brigadier Malcolm Wells was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the United States Bronze Star Medal , for distinguished command and leadership in action during warlike operations in Afghanistan , as the Commanding Officer of the 7th Battalion , Royal Australian Regiment ( 2012- 2013 ). During 2020-2021 he commanded the Joint Task Force providing the Australia Defence Force ’ s support to the national COVID-19 response .
Peter Whish-Wilson
Henn ’ s House 1983-1985
As Senator for the Tasmanian Greens in the Australian Parliament , Peter holds various portfolios and is an ongoing campaigner for the protection of the marine environment and wild places . Formerly a lecturer in Economics and Finance at the University of Tasmania , Peter has had a career in money markets , including the role of Vice President of Merrill Lynch in New York . Peter co-owned a vineyard in the Tamar Valley with his family .
Edward ' Ted ' White � Stirling House 1937-1941
Commanding Officer of the 10th Light Horse 1970-1973 . He is one of the few , if not the only , soldier who has held almost every rank in the Tenth Light Horse Regiment . Left GGS at 16 to join Commonwealth Bank before enlisting for WWII . Fought for AIF in New Britain ( PNG ) followed by occupation of Japan with British Commonwealth Occupation Forces . Rejoined bank upon return in 1947 and Citizen Military Forces ( CMF , now Army Reserve ). Youngest WA branch manager for Commonwealth Bank managing branches throughout W . A . before joining what would become 10th Light Horse upon returning to Perth from Broome in 1961 . Ted White assumed command of 10th Light Horse regiment in 1970 as a Lieutenant Colonel until 1973 . Promoted to full Colonel in 1973 and designated Commander of 5th Military District Training Group until retiring from active duty at end of 1976 . Made Honorary Colonel of 10th Light Horse 1977-1981 ending over 20 years of active service with the Regiment . Retired from Commonwealth Bank in 1985 after more than 40 years , ending career as Manager Banking Operations at St Georges Terrace branch and Branch Inspector . Also served on WA 150th Anniversary Committee commemorating 1801 French landing at Cottesloe in 1979 . Member of Rotary Club and Treasurer Swanbourne High School in 1977 and Salvation Army Village Nedlands Church Charity 2015-2021 .
Harold Whiteman � 1908-1914
Rhodes Scholar 1915 . Harold was temporarily on the School staff in 1915 before leaving for Oxford in August to enter Exeter College . As War had broken out he was also expected to join the military force and serve in some capacity , which he did . After arriving in England he enlisted in the Inns of Court Officer ' s Training Corps and was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant on Anzac Day 1916 . At that time volunteers were called for the Royal Flying Corp and he joined immediately . Harold began flying with the No 7 Reserve Squadron on 30 September . After only three hours solo flying he was moved to an advanced squadron . Harold was killed on his first flight on 23 October 1916 , aged 21 .

Justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia 1969-1983 , Chancellor of Murdoch University 1974-1980 . Former Patron of the Old Guildfordians Association .
Arthur Williams � Stirling House 1928-1929
He served as registrar of UWA from 1954 to 1978 . At that time he was the longest serving registrar of an Australian university . The sporting pavilion at University playing fields is named after him as he was the driving force in creating them . He has been honoured with the title of Emeritus Registrar and also with an MBE .
Brian Wright
Stirling House 1964-1969
Brian was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia ( AM ) for service to architecture through leadership roles in professional organisations and contributions to the establishment of standards for the education of architects and the practice of architecture . He was President of the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia ( 2002-2006 ) and was on the Architects Board of Western Australia Award ( 2005 ). In 2004 he became a Life Fellow of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects ( LFRAIA ).

Professor of Physiology . Head of WA Institute for Medical Research ' s Laboratory for Liver Disease and Carcinogenesis . In 2014 he became the Head of WA ' s Cancer Council . Fellow at the National Health and Medical Research Council . 2014 Old Guildfordian of the Year .
