Member of the Western Australian Legislative Council representing the East Metropolitan Region . First elected in 2005 at the of 29 , she is the youngest female Liberal Party member ever elected to the WA State Parliament . Sworn in as Minister for Environment and Youth in 2008 in the first Liberal National Government , becoming the youngest ever female Minister appointed in WA . Stepped down from the ministry in 2010 following the birth of her first child and appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier and later Minister for Planning and Disability Services in 2016 . She has held a number of shadow portfolios including Education and Training , Women ’ s Interests and Disability Services . Currently serving as Shadow Minister for Community Services ; Early Childhood Education ; Seniors and Ageing ; Youth . 2020 Old Guildfordian of the Year .

Alwyn Garrett � 1914-1917
Received The Order of the British Empire - Knights Commander ( KBE ), The Order of the Bath - Companion ( CB ) and The Order of the British Empire - Commander ( CBE ). Australian Army Chief of General Staff 1956-1960 ( now known as Chief of Army ). At the outbreak of World War II he came back to Australia and in November 1939 was appointed Captain in the Australian Imperial Force . By June 1940 Major Garrett was again in Britain , on the staff of the 18th Australian Infantry Brigade ; he was promoted lieutenant colonel on 16 September and briefly commanded the 2nd / 31st Battalion . Sent to the Middle East in February 1941 , he took part in the campaigns in Greece and Crete in April-May as a staff officer with the 19th Brigade and Savige Force . After further postings to Australian and British formations , mostly armoured , he returned home early in 1942 . Promoted temporary Colonel in April , Garrett was senior operations officer on the staff of the 1st Armoured Division until October when he became Director of Armoured Fighting Vehicles , Land Headquarters , Melbourne . In September 1943 he joined the staff of I Corps . From December that year to October 1945 he was Brigadier , general staff , successively on the headquarters of I Corps , II Corps , New Guinea Force and , again , II Corps . Appointed chief of the General Staff on 23 March 1958 , Garrett presided over a period of intense activity and change in the structure of the army , beginning with the disbandment of the national service scheme in 1959 . Garrett was elevated to K . B . E . in 1959 and transferred to the Retired List on 1 July 1960 .

Melbourne 1956 Olympics ( Athletics ). Won a Silver Medal for the 4x400 relay . He also won the 440 yards at the 1953 National Championships and achieved five second places and third place in 110 yard , 220 yard and 440 yard races at National Championships between 1953 and 1958 .

Considered by many to be the father of the lupin industry and the world ’ s leading authority on lupin as a crop plant . The first a crop and pasture legume breeder at The University of Western Australia and then the WA Department of Agriculture for more than 40 years . He bred the world ’ s first crop varieties of narrow-leaf lupins which are now grown all over the world . Similarly John made a major contribution to the pasture industry through work on collecting , selecting and breeding subterranean clover and serradella varieties . His interest in wine grapes led him to identify Margaret River as a region for premium wine production and was instrumental in the region ’ s early development . His importance as a viticultural researcher was recognised in 2008 when he received the Maurice O ’ Shea Award for outstanding contribution to the wine industry .
