Keith Burton � 1912-1916
Rhodes Scholar 1919 . Served in France during WW1 in 1917 before being severely wounded and returning to Australia in 1918 . While away , he was awarded his marksman badge for shooting in 1917 and the British Army Rifle Association Medal . He went on to University in 1919 , taking an Arts course . He joined the staff at Guildford Grammar School in 1920 for a term before leaving in August for Worcester College at Oxford . He was awarded an Arden Prize to the value of 100 pounds and eventually took his BA Degree with 2nd class honours at Oxford in June 1922 and planned to return to WA in 1923 .
Frederick ' Ben ' Carlin � School / Stirling House 1926-1929
After leaving school , Ben commenced work as an Articled Law Clerk , then to engineering at Kalgoorlie School of Mines , followed by coalmine work in China , 1939 . Served in WW2 in the Royal Indian Engineers and rose to rank of Major . Ben saw his first amphibious jeep in West Bengal , left to the Indian Government by the departing American Army , leading to Ben purchasing his own in Maryland , USA , in 1946 , and named the vehicle ‘ Half-Safe ’, after a radio advertisement for deodorant ! The rest is history – Ben became the first and only person to circumnavigate the world in an amphibious vehicle – 39,000 miles over land and 11,000 miles over water , four oceans and five continents .
Simon Carroll

Simon ' s decorated career includes being awarded the AusBiotech Chairman ' s Excellence Award for service to the biotechnology industry ( 2010 ), Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation ' s ( CSIRO ) Medal for Business Excellence ( 2000 ), and three medical research fellowships . He was also a named inventor on a number of granted gene delivery patents . Simon has been a member of company and research organisation boards and advisory bodies including the Prime Minister ' s Science Engineering and Innovation Council Working Group on Biodiscovery ( 2005 ) and the Premier ' s Science Council Working Group on Medical Research ( 2002 ). Simon co-founded the Margaret River Cheese Company ( 1982 ). After studying internationally in the field of molecular biology and holding senior executive posts in science-based organisations , including the inaugural Director of the Western Australian Biomedical Research Institute and Professor of Biomedical Research at Curtin University , Simon is now Director of Science Partnerships at Scitech . 2013 Old Guildfordian of the Year .

Presented with a Member of the Order of Australia ( AM ) for significant service to neurological medicine , and to people with Multiple Sclerosis . President of the World Federation of Neurology ( 2018-2021 ). President of Australian and New Zealand Association of Neurologists , formerly Australian Association of Neurologists ( 1998- 2000 ). Foundation Vice President and Treasurer of Pan-Asian Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis ( 2007-2018 ). Non-Executive Director of Multiple Sclerosis Research Australia , Multiple Sclerosis Australia ( 2004-2016 ) and Director for MSWA , formerly Multiple Sclerosis Society Western Australia , ( 1996-2021 ). Chair of the Medical Research Advisory Board for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Australia ( 1998-2002 ), MS Research Australia and Research Management Council ( 2002-2014 ).

Film director , producer and cinematographer . His short film ' Ronan ' s Escape ' was selected for 17 international film festivals , gaining 12 award nominations and nine wins .
Colin Chapman � Stirling House 1939-1941
Recipient of French Legion of Honour Medal , Bomber Command Medal and Clasp . The French Legion of Honour is France ’ s highest decoration awarded for his contribution to the liberation of France . The order was established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 . Colin was a Rear Upper Turret Gunner in Lancaster heavy bombers during World War II as part of 463 Squadron , Royal Australian Air Force , based in the United Kingdom . He was attacked by German jet fighters when they were used for the first time in war . He was also an Airline Captain for 29 years with MacRobertson Miller and Ansett Airlines .
Matthew Clape
School House 1985-1986
Played for the Australian Football League . Played 29 games and kicked 14 goals for the Eagles between 1992-1994 . He joined Carlton in 1995 , adding 58 games ( 48 goals ) in four seasons , with the highlight being a grand final win over Geelong in 1995 .
