AROUND THE SCHOOL Football Championship. This team competed at the School Sport Australia National Championships in Canberra at the end of October. We had a large number of crews in the finals, including a second place performance by our 1st VIII Girls Crew. Overall we placed second out of all schools. There is normally only one student chosen per state, but the organisers could • Shine Saju (12Sc) • Ross Stone (12Be) Oliver Cocliffe (9Wb) • Jack Sutton (12Be) • Isaac French (12Be) Our Preparatory School Opti-MINDS teams qualified for the national finals held in Queensland over the October break, an incredible achievement for Mrs Carol Ray and the following students: • Kale Kendall (12Be) • Belinda Yuen – Year 6 • Nathan Cattell (12Sc) • Avani De Santis – Year 6 not choose between the three Guildford Grammar School students, who were the best in the state. The Titration Team finished 5th in the State Finals. Their combined score gave them an “Excellent” team position. Tia Mackenzie (12Wb) achieved a silver, Tom Hodgins (12Ha) and Ben Bozich (12SG) achieved gold. Two of our Senior School music students, Nathan Osborne (10Be) and Matilda Hermann-Ralph (8He) performed at the Darlington Arts Festival in November. Andre Officer (6D) and Adoni Zhang (5T) have both been selected to represent Western Australia in the 2019 Touch • Aurelius Honti – Year 6 • Joshua Heffernan – Year 5 • Georgia Crossen – Year 5 • Michael Minchin – Year 5 • Charlie Spencer – Year 5 Two young female soccer players, Tatem Spencer (5M) and Ursilla Bell (5DT), competed in the Bunbury Cup in October, with their team from Perth Soccer Club and won! Bunbury Cup is hosted by Country Coastal Junior Soccer Association with 80 teams in a 2 day carnival on 15 pitches. The 7/8 A Girls’ Hockey Team drew their grand final and thus shared the trophy for the competition. Year 9 student Oliver Cocliffe (9Wb) has been moved out of the WAFL Umpire Development Squad and promoted as the youngest umpire in the Senior List of WAFL Umpires. Senior School students Charlize Gosnell (12Fr) and Matilda Hermann-Ralph (8He) both performed in the Marloo Theatre Production of Les Miserables in November. Thomas Bolt (8Fr) placed fourth in the state finals for the Merino Sheep Judging Junior Championships, missing out on third place by just a few points. The competition is comprised of a sheep judging and public speaking component. Chapel Gift winners Eleanor Disselkoen (10St) and Jack Allen (12Be). Hannah Rutley (9SG) and Georgina Abbott (9SG) made the state 16 and under Polocrosse Team. 9
