AROUND THE SCHOOL This diploma is required in order to apply to French Universities and is recognised in 165 countries. Zachary also competed at the National Finals of the Plain English Speaking Award (PESA) recently in Brisbane and enjoyed the opportunity to represent the school and the state. Emily Nayler (9Be) has been selected in the WA Swimming Team to travel to the AIS in Canberra to compete in the Australian State Teams Championships. Luke Osborne (12Be) was named Lions Youth of the Year and presented with his award at an assembly in August. Year 6 student James Park tried out for one of two spots available on the Floreat Athena squad and was offered a position on their NPL U13 squad next year. Cameron Schnell (10Ha) competed in the WA Taekwondo State Championships with some amazing results: • Gold, Sparring Junior Male (66-73kg), Black Belt • Gold, Poomsae Junior Male 15-17yrs, WT Individual • Gold, Poomsae Junior Male 15-17yrs, AT Individual • Gold, Poomsae Junior Pairs 15-17yrs Cameron won all four state titles that he competed in. Subsequently, Cameron also won a Gold Medal at the 2019 Taekwondo National Championships and is the Sparring National Champion for the Male Juniors under 68kg Black Belt division. Olivia Sangalli and Ronen Chowdhry Joshua Sharp (12St) was presented with a Headmaster’s Commendation award for his outstanding ATAR Engineering project. Lachlan Turton (10SG) lifted in the WA u15 & Youth Weightlifting Championships on Sunday 28 July and won gold in both u15 and Youth Male 61kg bodyweight category with a 45kg snatch and 62kg clean & jerk (total lift of 107kg), qualifying for the WA State u15 & Youth Team. Rourke Turton (12SG) lifted in the WA State Junior/Senior Weightlifting Championships back in June and won gold for both junior and senior in the 73kg bodyweight category with a snatch of 82kg and a clean & jerk of 106kg (total lift of 188kg). He also qualified for the WA State Junior team. Tjahkai (TJ) Walker (8Fr) was involved in filming a new welcome video for the Perth Children’s Hospital. Chad Wiese (11Fr) participated in the Avon Descent recently and came second in his category. Cameron Schnell (10Ha) 8 Congratulations to Year 6 students Olivia Sangalli and Ronen Chowdhry who were both inducted as Preparatory School Councillors at an assembly on Friday 16 September. Toby Ashworth (12Sc) and Angus Grigson (12Fr) had an awesome time at their first Hattah Desert Race, Australia’s biggest off-road racing event. 405 competitors entered from all over Australia. Angus and Toby were very successful in completing the race with Angus placing 101st outright and Toby placing 150th outright. In their under 19s class, Angus placed 15th and Toby 23rd. Considering this was their first time competing in the race against national competitors, their results are to be commended. Gibson Bell (8St) and Shivonn Jones (11St) both travelled to Queensland during the holidays to participate in the National Polo Championships. Gibson’s team came second and Shivonn’s team won their category. After Hamish Adamson (10SG), Angus Adamson (10SG) and Braydon Fernandes (10Sc) recently participated at the National Hockey Championships, Hamish has been named in the u16 Australian Schoolboys side who will be touring to South Africa later in the year. Jack Allen (12Be) and Eleanor Disselkoen (10St) won their respective Chapel Gift races.
