PR E PA R ATORY S C HO OL “Love it’s Around the World” showcases student songwriting and performance skills By Amelie Day (6D) Once we had finished recording and editing the final production, we came up with a plan to release it to the world. We held a presentation at Assembly and a public Facebook live video before it was released. In Term 1 the GTV crew (Year 5/6 STRETCH Media students) decided to write and produce an original song and music video called “Love it’s Around the World”. We based our song on this year’s Preparatory School themes of Love and Character Strengths. Each verse was written about a different character strength that we thought suited our school and the chorus was about love. “I enjoyed sharing our video with people on Facebook and YouTube as was a first for me and it was really cool,” reflected Greta. Our live video took place just before “Love it’s Around the World” was posted to Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. The release was a very exciting stage of the project and I think the whole crew really enjoyed watching their hard work finally going live. During the writing and recording process we worked with Mr Kruger and Mr Edwards, two of our awesome music teachers here at Guildford Grammar School. “I enjoyed recording and playing the music because everyone got to be a part of it,” said Greta, a member of the GTV crew. Sofia, our lead singer for the verse on kindness, said that she really enjoyed working with the professionals to improve the lyrics. 38 graphic designer. He gave us a professional insight into filming music videos and had many suggestions to improve the video. “Mr Kruger and Mr Edwards had lots of experience writing, recording and making music,” she added, “they taught us different ways to write lyrics and improve them.” “I loved the filming, mostly because it was something I was new to and it was just a really good experience,” said Gemma. “Mr Pieloor gave us the opportunity to film with higher quality cameras and this led to a significant improvement in the overall quality of the production.” After extensive planning and preparation, we had a clear image of what we wanted to film. We were lucky enough to have the assistance of Mr Pieloor, the school’s videographer and A massive thank you to Mr Underwood and Ms Ileana who helped us to record the lyrics in the Senior School’s purpose-built recording studio. One of the goals for the project was to share our video and our message all around the world. In just a few minutes, the video had been viewed in many countries including New Zealand, USA, England and France. “I loved how we started from scratch and made a totally original song and music video,” said Ursilla. The video was a fun and interesting project that we will all look back on with fond memories in years to come. You can watch the video on our YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/ watch?v=B4q7mJGWloA.
