SENIOR SCHOOL excellence in titrations With over 25 students choosing titrations as a Friday afternoon activity, we have enjoyed another successful year. This year we entered our first co-ed team into the Titration Stakes competition. With the help of Mrs Siza Macdonald and Miss Gemma Haddleton we were able to develop our titration skills over the course of Terms 1, 2 and 3 and achieve success in the competition placings. The state competition was held at Curtin University on the evening of Tuesday 25 June. Guildford Grammar School entered two teams on the evening (there were limited places this year and all schools were only allowed two teams). The two teams were each composed of three students and both teams were required to obtain a precise concentration of a given solution. We were required to complete the titrations At the time of the competition we were confident of a good outcome as we had been tirelessly practising to hone our skills. 26 in under two hours utilising many pieces of fragile and accurate glassware and equipment. The teams consisted of the following students: Team 1: Thomas Hodgins (12Ha) Benjamin Bozich (12SG) Tia Mackenzie (12Wb) Team 2: Bevan McNess (12Fr) Ashton Reid (12Ha) Jayden Miller (12Wb) Reserve: Kaelis Ball (12He) With much anticipation, we finally received our results out of over 100 teams. The Guildford Grammar School teams placed as follows: Team 1 – 7th place Team 2 – 17th place Team 1 advanced to the state and national finals, representing the first ever Guildford Grammar School co-ed titration team competing at a national level.
