SENIOR SCHOOL
the fun of
the
fete
The busy Term 3 closed with a great
celebration of community life; the annual
Senior School Fete. From dunking the
teachers in the dunk tank, playing monster
ball, sumo wrestling, face painting and
lots of food stalls, there was something for
everyone at this student coordinated fete.
All houses coordinated a food stand or
activity. From Harper House, ‘hook a
duck’ saw Mr Swan trying to work out the
best way to snaffle a signet. Bennettians,
under the watchful eye of Ms Patriquin,
managed to inspire shooting hoops.
Woodbridge provided a ‘Tin Can Alley’ with
versions of pong and the ingenious washer
toss for chocolate. Tia Mackenzie (12Wb)
and Jesse Angel-Ewings (12Wb) used
their artistic skills for some face painting,
with the added magic of fairy dust, and the
School House students ran the pie toss and
guessing games to win sugary sweets.
The remaining four houses, Henn’s House,
Saint George’s House, Freeth House and
Stirling House fed the hungry hordes,
providing hot dogs, burgers and chips,
ice-cream, snow cones and churros. A huge
thank you to the catering staff for their help
in the food department!
The Art Department, under the watchful eye
of Messrs Derums and Doheny, allowed
students to throw pots and plates (on a
wheel). Learning Enrichment provided the
ubiquitous show bags and their escape
room, “Rebel Revolt”, was a great hit, with
students trying to puzzle their way out.
No Guildford Grammar School event is
complete without the Music Department
and the continuous live music from some
very talented musicians and passionate
performers added something special to the
afternoon.
The Fete was coordinated by the students
and I wish to thank the many students who
committed to run individual stalls, many
going well beyond what was asked of them.
With the assistance and organisation of the
Prefects and senior students, particularly
the Service Learning Group of Abigail
Burbridge (12Be), Sienna Tolomei (12SG),
Tia Mackenzie (12Wb), Olivia Hutton
(12Sc) and Corbyn Bevan (12Ha), the Heads
of House and Mentors, our students and
staff enjoyed a great experience while raising
much-needed funds for the Royal Flying
Doctor Service.
