AROUND THE SCHOOL
State Schoolboys AFL Squads
We are thrilled to announce that four
current Guildford Grammar School students
were selected to represent Western Australia
in their respective age groups for AFL State
Schoolboys teams. To be chosen at such
a level is a remarkable achievement, and
we wish to acknowledge the effort and
achievements of the following students:
Blake Kelly (7St) was selected for the
12 and under Western Australia State
Schoolboys team. As a midfielder, he is said
to be an incredible footballer who is known
for his agility and tackling abilities. Blake
reported that he was enthusiastic about
honing his many talents and gaining some
valuable playing experience at a higher level
of football.
In addition to being an accomplished
actor, Tjirrdm “TJ” McGuire (10Fr) is
also a sensational footballer, having been
selected to play for the 15 and under State
Schoolboys squad. As a five-year-old,
TJ began playing AFL at Auskick and has
developed into an exciting young player with
fantastic speed and the ability to read the
play remarkably well. TJ played on the left-
wing for WA and cherished the opportunity
to “play in such a unique squad.”
Elijah Hewett (10He) was also selected
to represent Western Australia in the 15
and under State Schoolboys squad. Elijah
is reported to be a very adept footballer
who demonstrates resounding accuracy
and marking during the play and is known
for prevailing in contested scenarios.
Elijah played in the midfield for WA and
disclosed that his most treasured memory
from his experience was making new
friends along the way.
Following in his father’s footsteps, boarder
Rhett Bazzo (10Sc) is thriving in his
football career and was selected to join
Year 7 Scholarships now open
Applications are now open for
Year 7 Academic Scholarships for
commencement in 2021.

the 16 and under Western Australia State
Schoolboys squad. Rhett was a pivotal
player for the WA side and proved to be an
asset with his sound marking and ability to
anticipate the play. Rhett reported that he
is looking forward to seeing how far he can
go with his football and aspires to one day
play in the AFL.
State selection is a significant achievement,
and we congratulate Blake, TJ, Elijah and
Rhett for their marvelous accomplishment.

continue to develop their football and play
for their respective teams.
