OLD GUILDFORDIANS News In year order Ken Bladen (St 1949-1952), a Lieutenant Colonel (Retired), sadly passed away on 22 February 2019 and was listed in the Vale section of the July 2019 Forward. Ken proudly served our country for 30 years and was a revolutionary figure in the military and community. His legacy was honoured in The West Australian on 23 May 2019. William Carroll (He 1963-1966) was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) at the 2019 Queen’s Honours List. Bill was appointed as AM for “significant service to neurological medicine”. Tony Kiernan (Sc 1963-1968) was recognised as a recipient of an Order of Australia (AM) at the 2019 Queen’s Honours List. Tony was presented with his AM for “significant service to business, and to community”. Gary Pritchard (SG 1966-1970), along with his wife Gaynor, was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to children as foster carers. Gary is now retired after working as a site manager in the building industry and lives in Bunbury. They are still working as foster carers. and has previously held roles with the Australian Federal Police. Working the past nine years in state policing, and with decades of experience working in law enforcement across Europe, Asia and the Pacific, Reece is said to have “a wealth of knowledge on a global scale”. Mark Skiffington (He 1978-1985) featured in The Sunday Times (18 August 2019) with the Australian Sudoku team, having played against New Zealand at the WACA Ground. The World Sudoku League CEO, Mick Collis, reported that it was a “great contest,” with Australia winning comfortably 4-1. Robert Breden (He 1982-1988) married Michelle Natta in the School Chapel on 8 June 2019. David Williams (SG 1990-1993) and wife, Brooke, proudly welcomed their second child, Declan, to the world in August 2019. His brother, Tate, has been an awesome big brother and is taking great care of Declan. Tao Shan Lim (Be 1987-1994) kindly offered current Guildford Grammar School student Vishal Pindoria (11 Ha) the opportunity for a work placement at Joondalup Orthopaedic Group. Andrew Denton (SG 1977-1977) appeared in The West Australian (18 April 2019) regarding his quiet approach to interviews. He has been described as a “meticulous researcher” and this dedication has positioned him as a celebrated personality in journalism and entertainment. Angus Turner (He 1988-1994) featured in The West Australian (1 June 2019) as the recipient of the ‘Professions Award’ at the Western Australian of the Year Gala. Angus was celebrated for his contributions to WA by helping the visually impaired across the State. Reece Kershaw (Be 1980-1985) has been appointed as Commissioner of The Australian Federal Police. Reece spent the past five years as the Commissioner for the Northern Territory Stewart Walters (Wb 1996-2000), after 10 years abroad in the UK and Wales playing professional cricket, returned to Perth and is now Guildford Grammar School’s Head Cricket Reunions & Events 2020 46 Coach. He has spent the last 4 years as a member of the WACA High Performance Team and Assistant Coach of the Western Warriors and Perth Scorchers. James Taylor (SG 2003-2003) married Emily Perrella in the School Chapel on Saturday, 5 October 2019. Jan Pittman (Former Staff 1983 and 1991- 2004) co-hosted a local art event with fellow artist Fiona O’Neil called “Formal & Fanciful”. As an award-winning artist, Jan paints remarkable watercolour pieces of native Australian flora. Joshua Wilkes (Wb 2000-2005) featured in The West Australian (5 May 2019) following a selfless act where he rescued a driver, whose taxi became submerged in the Swan River. Alexander Rance (Fr 2005-2006) is reportedly “making amazing progress” after a terrible ACL tear in round one of the 2019 Australian Football League season. The five-time All Australian is a remarkable player and is looking forward to next season. Ambrose Bonnaire-Sergeant (St 2003-2007) was awarded a Computer Science Scholarship at Indiana University (Bloomington Indiana, USA) in 2014. After 4.5 years of study, on 2 May 2019 Ambrose graduated with a PhD in Computer Science. He has been researching the Computer Language “Clojure” and over the last six years has been invited to give talks in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Amsterdam, Delhi, London and several American states.
