Ben Carlin ( Sc / St 1926-1929 ) and his global journey in an amphibious jeep , has been featured in an extract from ‘ The Last Great Australian Adventurer ’ by Gordon Bass in The West Australian ( 13 Aug 2017 ). The extract details the effort and the tribulations that Ben and his American wife , Elinore , went through to get the jeep named ‘ Half-Safe ’ across many oceans and countries . The Half-Safe is proudly housed on campus at Guildford Grammar School and its story is quite astounding .
John Burridge ( He / St 1956-1962 ) was photographed next to WA Premier Mark McGowan in the West Australian newspaper ( 24 July 2017 ). The article was in relation to the Premier ’ s call to declare a national day to commemorate Pozieres Day , one of the bloodiest battles for Australian diggers of World War 1 . This was a battle that John Burridge ’ s great uncle fought in .
David Blair ( Wb 1961-1963 ) wrote a piece that was featured in the West Australian ( 1 June 2017 ) in the lead up to WA Day , highlighting the significant contributions WA has made to international science . David played a significant role in Western Australia ’ s “ Discovery of the Century ” which was the detection of the elusive gravitational waves that were predicted by Albert Einstein in 1916 . The scientific discovery is one of the State ’ s most significant scientific achievements and demonstrated that WA is at the forefront of international physics .
Charles ‘ Chris ’ Iseppi ( Sc 1978-1980 ) won Silver in an International Field Archery Association competition in May 2017 , before the 20 June 2017 National Titles . Chris says he made a couple of shooting mistakes that lost him the gold medal , but he will continue to work hard to improve .
Jamie ‘ Stormie ’ Mills ( Wb 1979-1984 ) completed a mural in Kalgoorlie as part of a public art project that seeks to reinvigorate the city centre . The city contracted more than 40 local , indigenous and WA professional artists to create high-quality murals in the windows of empty shops and blank walls to bring some vibrant art into the struggling centre . Stormie painted a piece titled ‘ Drowning Within ’ at Goldfields Toyota , which pays tribute to Kalgoorlie ’ s history .
Gary Pittman ( St 1984-1987 ) is now more than halfway towards his first lot of long service leave , with him passing four years in the same job . He works as a Disability Support Worker , in the southern suburbs of Perth , providing social activities and support for volunteer work with clients of a variety of ages . Gary is enjoying the work and seeing the simple joy he brings to the clients on their days out and about , all made possible by a recent change in the way the wider community accepts and supports the less fortunate members of society .
Sean Freeman ( SG 1985-1989 ) has relocated his family over to India for six months , returning late January 2018 . He has worked in India for more than eight years , and NSL Mining Resources India is still the only foreign company to own and operate iron ore mines in India .
Justin Freeman ( SG 1988-1993 ) was involved with developing Rio Tinto ’ s RTVis , software that creates 3D displays to help predict the economic viability of a mining resource and improves ground monitoring , optimises fleet management and improves the safety of ship loading . In 2017 the project won an Austmine Innovation Award for Miners .
Dr Angus Turner ( He 1988-1994 ) featured in The West Australian ( 13 July 2017 ). An exceptional student , Angus went on to study medicine at the University of Western Australia . He was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford in 2001 and , after two years studying in England , he completed a Masters of Evidence Based Medicine . Angus then moved to Melbourne to complete five years of ophthalmology training . Angus returned to Perth and he is now an Associate Professor at the University of Western Australia , and the Founder and Director of Outback Vision at the Lions Eye Institute . Angus was recognised for his amazing achievements when , in 2015 , he was named “ First Amongst Equals ”, the highest honour at the 40Under40 Awards .
Michael Morrow ( Ha 1992-1996 ) is now Media Adviser for The Hon . Craig Laundy MP , Federal Member for Reid and Assistant Minister for Industry , Innovation and Science .
Thomas Rogers ( Wb 1989-1996 ) and wife , Michelle , welcomed a beautiful bundle of joy on 6 July 2017 , a boy named George Austin Rogers , weighing 3.71kgs . The middle name comes from Michelle ’ s Old Guildfordian dad , Gerald Austin Piesse ( He 1963-1967 ).
Timothy Duff ( Be 1999-2004 ) and Stacey-Ann were excited to welcome the arrival of Leo Edmund Duff at 12.19pm on 23 July 2017 , weighing 3.03kg .
Ben Bullock ( SG 2002-2006 ) finished 17th in this year ’ s Masterchef competition televised on Network Ten . Out of approximately 20,000 applicants for the cooking competition , Ben did very well to make it into the top 24 contestants that were featured on the show . Ben works as a lawyer for Philipoff Legal Services , a company run by the mother of Old Guildfordians Adam Philipoff ( He 1994-2006 ) and Ian Philipoff ( He 1995-2007 ). Ian works alongside Ben , as does fellow Old Guildfordians Jed Noonan ( He 2002-2007 ) and Kieran McErlean ( St 2000-2007 ). The positive Masterchef experience has provided Ben with the encouragement he needed to pursue his passion for cooking , which has seen him split his work between law and the kitchen . He spends four days a week in the Philipoff office , continuing his work as a lawyer , and three days a week working in the kitchen at Paddock and Farm in Bedford . His passions for food and philanthropy has taken him across the world as part of a charity food tour , travelling from Perth ( WA ) to Perth ( Scotland ) by motorcycle . Perth based company , Hunter Motorcycles , has sponsored the tour and money raised supports Beyond Blue .
Alex Rance ( Fr 2005-2006 ) was a part of the victorious Richmond side in this year ’ s AFL Grand Final against Adelaide . Alex continued his success this season and was appointed Captain of the All Australian side . This is his fourth consecutive year being selected as a member of the All Australian side .
Ambrose Bonnaire-Sergeant ( St 2003-2007 ) has graduated with a Masters in Computer Sciences at Indiana University in Bloomington . He interned at SparkFunk from Washington DC over his summer break . He continued his research in Programming Languages and Type Systems in Clojure in August 2017 .
Corey Adamson ( Be 2005-2009 ) was a part of Western Australia ’ s win over Victoria in this year ’ s State of Origin competition for the Australian Football League ( 27 May 2017 ). The win was the first time WA has ever beaten Victoria in 113 years , with an impressive performance in Port Melbourne that saw the Black Swans win by 63 points . Corey had an impressive performance at half-back , gathering 18 possessions and being a great physical presence within the side .
Dylan Collard ( Ha 2007-2009 ) was presented with the ‘ Awards Australian Community Service and Volunteering Award ’. This is an award that recognises young individuals who have made an outstanding contribution and have positively impacted the lives of others and their community . Dylan is a voluntary founding member of the Victoria Park Aboriginal Engagement Strategy Group . The group educates on reconciliation and culture using mediums of art , music , photography , story-telling and performances . The group has performed at NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week . Dylan was a Youth Panel member at the KickArts Festival and provides voluntary speaking presentations on Aboriginal culture .
Brendon Arrowsmith ( Fr 2000-2010 ) after working in Workforce Planning at the Education Department , accepted a role in the People Advisory Services section of EY in Canberra , beginning in August 2017 .
Matthew Bell ( Prep / Wb 2005-2010 ) completed his Masters of Engineering in 2015 and has been working at high profile civil engineering firm , Arup , focusing on large government infrastructure projects . In his spare time he enjoys training for running and ironman events . He is also residing with fellow Old Guildfordian Brad Levit ( Prep / Wb 2002-2010 ), who has taught him to cook basic meals . Brad Levit ( Prep / Wb 2002-2010 ) recently became a Chartered Accountant ( CA ) and has started an exciting role in Business Development for Iluka Resources . Gerald Ugle ( Be 2007-2010 ) captained Peel Thunder to a second WAFL premiership win over Subiaco Football Club . Peel managed to beat Subiaco by 16 points , in a hard fought Grand Final at Domain Stadium , and Gerald gathered 12 disposals on the day and kicked 1 goal and 2 behinds .
