OLD GUILDFORDIANS
Dr Michael
Ottaviano
Old Guildfordian
of the Year 2016
Chief Executive Officer
and Managing Director,
Carnegie Clean Energy
There is no doubt that there is a need for
positive environmental change and
Dr Michael Ottaviano (Wb 1986-1990) is
one Old Guildfordian that has taken up the
call. Since 2006 Michael has been working
with Carnegie Clean Energy, the undisputed
leader in wave energy technology and
the only company in the world to offer a
combination of wave, solar, wind, battery
storage and desalination via microgrids.
As Managing Director, Michael has overseen
the company’s development of its CETO Wave
Energy technology, from proof of concept
to operation of the only grid-connected
wave project in the world, and raised $140m
in equity, debt and grants. He also led
Carnegie’s recent acquisition of solar/battery
project developer, Energy Made Clean.
Previously a senior manager at KPMG
focused on advising clients on innovation
Carnegie Clean Energy is the only
company to have operated a grid-
connected wave energy project over
four seasons, with thousands of
operating hours in the ocean.
Dr Michael Ottaviano (Wb 1986-1990)
and product development, Michael has since
been establishing himself as a significant
player in development of clean energy
policy. He was previously a member of the
Australian Government’s Energy White
Paper Consultative Committee and a Board
Member of the Clean Energy Council,
Australia’s clean energy peak industry group.
Michael is keeping himself busy: as if work
wasn’t enough, Michael is also applying his
skillset as a director of ASX-listed wearables
developer Nuheara and WA film agency
Screenwest.
The environmental cause is a very worthy
one, and we wish Michael well for what we
hope is a brighter and cleaner future.
Dr Ottaviano was the guest of honour at the Old Guildfordians’ Annual Dinner on 7 October
2017. He is pictured here with the Headmaster, Stephen Webber, and the President of The
