COMMUNITY
Art, calligraphy and fashion a winning trio
The 17th Annual Art Exhibition and Sale was held from
7-10 October, with the Official Opening Night attracting a large crowd
who came along to enjoy the company, food and art!
This year’s feature artists included Olga Cironis, Kathryn Haug and
Minaxi May and the Exhibition was officially opened by Felicity Johnson,
Director of the WA Art Collective.
Local artist and Old Guildfordian Imogen Palmer (Prep 06-08) painted
one of her travel photographs in front of an admiring audience and Old
Guildfordian Jarrad Martyn (2009 Art Captain) completed work on a
mural he worked on with the Year 11 and 12 students, which will be
donated to the School and displayed in the Brine Building.
Our sincere thanks to the team of people involved in bringing the
Exhibition together, under the leadership of our Events Coordinator,
Tracey Roki and Curator, Adam Derums.
As part of the Exhibition the School hosted a calligraphy workshop
on Saturday 7 October with local artist Judith Ann. Participants
were schooled in the ancient art of calligraphy over a glass of cold
champagne and some delightful morning tea.
On Sunday morning the Thwaites Centre courtyard was transformed
for the Community High Tea, complete with a catwalk, stage and
elegant tables. Attendees enjoyed a delicious High Tea, served by the
ladies from FOSS, while they enjoyed a parade of fashion by Trends
Boutique and entertainment by the delightful Trent-Jean.
Thank you to everyone who helped over the weekend at these three
events and a special thank you to the Guildford Arts Supporters’ (GAS)
for their support of arts at the School.
From the P & F
I am always in awe of the selfless
dedication of our P&F committees and
how much they support the School and
continually deliver social opportunities to
the community.
Please read the short articles from areas
of your P&F community as they share their
highlights of 2017.
I sincerely thank all of the volunteers for
their time and energy. I particularly want
to acknowledge the tireless work of Nada
Edwards, FOSS President, Sheri-Lee Knoop-
Bender, FOPS President, Christine Brown,
BPA President and Shelley Robertson,
GAS President for all they do, they are the
backbone to the P&F and we value their
contribution.
