Equestrian program up and trotting
At the end of Term 3, ten students from Years 5 and 6 started the
10-week Ready Set Trot program at Zia Park in Gidgegannup. The
response to this opportunity was overwhelming and we are excited
about the possibility of more students being involved in 2018.
Each Thursday afternoon, for ten weeks, the students jumped on
the bus and travelled to Gidgegannup for two hours of instruction
under the very experienced eye of Zia Park owner, Gail Simms, and
her qualified staff. Lessons were tailored to suit students of all riding
abilities, from complete beginners to the more experienced and
confident.
Ready Set Trot is a junior participation program for children with an
interest in horses who don’t have a horse of their own. Ready Set Trot
aims to introduce young people to horses and provide them with a
better understanding of horsemanship in a fun and exciting way –
regardless if they have access to a horse or not. Ready Set Trot teaches
34
the fundamentals of horsemanship, introduces young people to the
many various areas of the horse industry and aims to instill in them a
lifelong passion for horses.
At Zia Park students are given the opportunity to experience a wide
variety of exciting equestrian disciplines including dressage, show
jumping, cross country, mounted games, vaulting, polocrosse and
trail riding. In addition, they also learn the many different aspects of
horse care.
Ready Set Trot will be offered in the Preparatory School as a summer
or winter sports option next year and the aim is for an equestrian
program in the Senior School to also be developed for 2018.
