COMMUNITY

Friends of the Preparatory School ( FOPS )

The FOPS committee offered a variety of support to school events as well as hosting their own events over the last few months .
A picnic morning tea in the wonderful nature play space sponsored by FOPS and the P & F was a fantastic success , with children celebrating Mother ’ s Day with their mothers and grandmothers . This was the first time we had used this wonderful space for a function and we plan to hold more functions there in the future .
The combined whole school Mothers ’ Day event was the first collaboration of FOSS , FOPS and the BPA . It was a wonderful event and lovely to see mothers across the whole school enjoying each other ’ s company and sharing experiences . The presentations and entertainment were superb along with an amazing menu provided by Mandoon Estate .
This combined function led to another , a morning tea held at Constantia Estate , embracing the art and charitable work of Leo and Lotus and one of our longstanding families to whom unfortunately we are saying goodbye . The ladies who attended all enjoyed the morning tea and the money raised through the event was shared between Leo and Lotus and the P & F .
The FOPS main annual fundraiser was another first , a Quiz Night and Disco . The night was a huge success with a sell-out crowd all coming dressed in their best 80 ’ s gear . The mums and dads enjoyed a great night of fun and dancing and overall it was a successful fundraiser .
In Term 3 FOPS supported the School in all of the athletics events and the very large
Rugby 7 ’ s tournament . A total of 26 teams attended the tournament and FOPS and the volunteers served some 1200 meals over an 8-hour day . This fundraising will assist with the sustainability of this tournament , which is becoming ever more prestigious on the Rugby WA scene . Western Force and Wallabies 7 ’ s players attended the tournament this year , signing autographs and talking to the children .
FOPS is glad to be collaborating across the School and is always grateful to all volunteers who help with events . Without these valuable volunteers it would not be possible to host so many great events for our school community .

From the Boarding Parents ’ Association ( BPA )

Being a boarder at Guildford Grammar School allows our boys to experience a vast array of opportunities , available to all students , across all year levels , both in and out of school hours . They are encouraged to give everything on offer ‘ a go ’ at least once – they may not enjoy them all but those new learning experiences broaden our boys ’ horizons and allow them to believe that anything and everything is possible .
A typical school day encompasses lessons and study , but the opportunity to become part of our many sporting groups and exposure to the arts through drama and dance productions , music ensembles , belonging to both the Chapel and the School Choir , all provide welcome respite from the daily grind of learning , homework and assignments .
Over the course of this year our boarding boys have been part of the drama production , Amadeus , and performed with the Boodjar Bidi Dance Group . Music ensembles have played at numerous events both in and out of school time . The School Choir have sung at St James Anglican Church in Moora . Chapel services have been held not only in our beautiful Chapel of St Mary and St George but also at St Matthew ’ s Church in Guildford and St George ’ s Cathedral in the city . Parents , family members and the wider school community have all been able to enjoy these many and varied performances .
Occasionally a boarding recreational activity will also include the arts , where the boys
