Our new hockey turf : official opening
On Sunday 16 October the new hockey turf was officially opened by Guildford Grammar Foundation board member , Mr Ron Gamble . As a past parent of two students , Ian ( St 93-97 ) and Nicholas ( St 96-00 ) who both played 1st XI hockey for the School , it was quite appropriate for Ron to officially open and name the new facility the Guildford Grammar Foundation Hockey Turf .
The celebrations also included an exhibition match between the current School 1st XI and the Headmaster ’ s XI . The Headmaster ’ s XI was a mix of current staff and Old Guildfordians , as well as current Australian
Men ’ s Hockey Team Captain , Mark Knowles and former international players Glen Simpson and Paula Dabanch .
Since its soft opening in May the facility had already been patronised by the Australian Men ’ s Hockey Team , the West Australian Women ’ s Hockey Team , the Indian National under-21 team and during the recent October school holidays the facility hosted one day of the under-13 National Hockey Championships .
