PREPARATORY SCHOOL

Olympics Day

In the lead up to the Rio 2016 Olympics and Paralympics we had a fantastic opportunity to host an Olympic Day in the Preparatory School on Friday August 5 , coinciding with the Olympic Opening Ceremony . Each class from Pre-Primary to Year 6 chose a country to ‘ represent ’ for the day , dressing up in the colours of their adopted country for our very own GGPS Mini-Olympics .
Our Mini-Olympics began with an opening ceremony which included the Parade of Nations , the Athletes Pledge , the ‘ arrival ’ of the Olympic Torch and the Lighting of the Cauldron . Following the ceremony students and staff participated in the following tabloid activities based on Olympic and Paralympic events :
1 . Wheelchair Basketball with
Wheelchair Sports WA 2 . High Jump 3 . Volleyball 4 . ‘ Canoe Sprint ’ 5 . Goal Ball 6 . ‘ Hammer Throw ’ and Javelin ( Turbo ) 7 . Rowing 8 . Hockey 9 . Golf
Thank you to all of the staff and external coaches who made this day possible , particularly Mr Tony Lovrich ( Director of Rowing ) for giving up his time to run the rowing station and also for displaying some of his memorabilia , including his silver medal from the 1984 Olympics and his Sydney Olympic Torch . A big thank you also to Mr Phil Marshall ( Hockey Facilities Manager ) for his time on the day and also for making the new synthetic Hockey Turf available for all of our students to experience .
The day was a great success for students and staff and a fantastic way to celebrate and spark students interest in the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics .

Grandparents ’ Day

Grandparents ’ Day in the Preparatory School is always one of the highlights of the year , with hundreds of grandparents visiting the School to spend time in the classrooms with their grandchildren .
This year Grandparents ’ Day was held on Friday 4 November , starting with a Chapel Service in the Chapel of St Mary and St George . After the Service , grandparents converged on the Preparatory School where they spent time in the classrooms , tried their hand at a range of activities with the students , and had a look around our stunning new facilities .
A picnic lunch , catered by the School Café , saw children and grandparents relax around the nature play area to indulge in some delicious treats .
Thank you to everyone involved in making this day such a success .
