The arts are a pivotal force in contemporary society , holding up a metaphorical mirror that challenges , extends , confronts and persuades us into new ways of perceiving and apprehending human experience . Within an education context the arts play a vital role in the shaping and growing of young people , developing intellectual and emotional aspects of their being through the connection and engagement with ideas , concepts , apprehensions , knowledge , techniques , skills , creativity and aesthetics . There has always been a deep drive within humanity as a whole to express the inner world and interpret the outer world through markings , sound , voice , and body . It therefore stands to reason that arts experience and learning remains an embedded force in global education , that each generation has the ability to think and create outside the box , to question , to facilitate change , to expand new paradigms that will foster the evolution of the human race .
At Guildford Grammar School the arts are an arterial flow of energy , engaging the students in music , drama , media and visual arts . Each subject is led by passionate , creative , driven staff , creative individuals within their own right , completely immersed in the depth of their fields , which in turn influences the students to pursue their own passions with rigour .
Guildford Grammar School has a long history of producing stand out creators , namely Heath Ledger ( Wb 87-96 ), Randolph Stow ( Sc 50-52 ), Carl Vine ( Wb 67-71 ), and many others . In recent years we have seen students pursuing successful training and careers in theatre , performance , film , media , music , and visual arts .
