Quarter Athletics Carnival Held on August 24 , 25 and 26 , the Guildford Grammar Preparatory School Quarter Athletics Carnival was again a fantastic display of athletic talent , fun and participation .
As always , day one was a terrific showcase of the abilities of our Early Learning and Junior Preparatory School students . Years 1 , 2 and 3 jumped and threw with all of their might in the long jump and T-ball throw , whilst also working together with their Quarter team mates in the team games of leaderball , passball and tunnelball . The Kindy and Pre- Primary event held that afternoon nearly stole the show . The joy and excitement on the students ’ faces during the team events was so infectious that everyone present wore a big smile , while the looks of determination as the students ‘ competed ’ in their 50m races was priceless .
Day 2 proved to be a record-breaking day at the Year 4 , 5 and 6 Field Events . There were several near records , but it was Ryder Attwood-Faudet of North Quarter who , after breaking two records at the Quarter Swimming earlier in the year , broke both the shot put and discus records for Year 6 . With a throw of 8.88m Ryder surpassed the old shot put record of 8.57m set by A Cockman in 2007 , and with a hurl of 29.19m in the discus ( 750g ) Ryder eclipsed the previous record of 28.80m set by L Munt in 2009 . There were many other great performances from other students in the shot put , long jump , high jump , discus and triple jump . However , two students in particular had fantastic days . Ryder Attwood-Faudet , along with Ezekiel Hewett ( Year 4 , South ),
won 4 out of a possible 5 events for their year groups on day 2 .
Once again our showpiece day 3 was a fabulous event for students , staff and spectators . Encompassing Year 1-6 track events and Year 4-6 team games , the day got underway with the traditional Quarter march-past . All students participated in several events across the day . Following the junior events , West was declared the winning Junior Quarter , while Mikaela Hyman was the Junior Champion Girl and Theodore Leeming and Jack Sheppeard were tied Junior Champion Boys .
After the lunch break it was time for the Year 4-6 Hurdles , 100m , 200m and relays . There were many great races and individual examples of courage and excellence . At the conclusion of the carnival Lemarna Valentine was awarded the Hamersley Cup as the Champion Girl Athlete compiling the most points across the carnival , and Ezekiel Hewett was awarded the Victor Ludrum Cup as the Champion Boy athlete . After dominating the track events after lunch on Day 3 , claiming the Silbert Challenge Trophy for the Champion Relay Quarter along the way , East stormed home to be declared the 2016 Champion Quarter .
JPSSA Athletics Carnival After a rigorous training program in the two weeks between our Quarter Carnival and the JPSSA Athletics Carnival , we arrived at the State Athletics Stadium on September 8 full of confidence . It soon became apparent that despite our hard work and general athletic talent , we were up for a huge challenge , with many other school teams boasting students who regularly compete in weekly Little Athletics events , and even some state champion runners . The Guildford team battled hard all day and produced some good results , particularly in the 60m hurdles . Edward Harding ( Year 5 ) produced our only 1st Division win of the day , winning the Discus with a throw of 21.58m . In the end Guildford finished in 5th place overall , drawing to a close another extremely busy Athletics season . Thank you to all of our athletes and our coaches Mrs Ebony Talbert , Mr David Langham and Mr Samuel Shambrook , as well as Mrs Kate Hewett for their commitment to the program over the season .
