The RAC Pedal Prix WA event is fast becoming an exciting calendar event for WA cycling . If you have never heard of it , it has been described as the ‘ V8 Supercars of cycling ’ or ‘ Human Powered Vehicle Racing ’. Pedal Prix is an exciting , fast paced , highly engaging and very popular extra-curricular activity that has been providing a challenging experience for students across Australia for the last 30 years .
Pedal Prix at Guildford Grammar School aims to provide students from Years 7-12 with the opportunity to excel in a range of different areas such as design , engineering , business , sports science and cycling . We aim to be competitive on the race course , but the process is just as important as the final goal . Pedal Prix is finished for this year but will be back again in 2017 . If your son would be interested in taking part next year he should go and introduce himself to Mr Perrin . If you , an individual you know or a company you are aware of would be interested in supporting this wonderful program , we would love to hear from you . Please get in touch with Richie Longson ( Richie . Longson @ ggs . wa . edu . au ) or James Perrin ( James . Perrin @ ggs . wa . edu . au ).

The Gran Fondo World Championships ( GFWC ) is the premier international road cycling event for non-professional cyclists . It gives amateur cyclists such as myself an opportunity to represent their country and to strive for the coveted rainbow jersey of a world champion .
The GFWC was hosted here in Perth from 1-4 September with the Time Trial World Champion being decided on Rottnest Island on Thursday 1 September and the Road Race World Champion being crowned after a tough 154km race through the Perth Hills on Sunday 4 September .
In order to qualify to compete in the event a person must place in top 25 % in one of the 13 qualifying events held all over the world including South Africa , Brazil , Japan and many more .
I qualified here in Perth back in March . Representing Australia in the Time Trials and the Road Race in September has been the culmination of goal setting , planning and hard work over the past two years .
Countless people in the school community have provided me with material and mental support as well as just being interested in my training and progress . I am grateful to everyone who helped me to strive for my personal goal .
I was aiming to win these events ; I was shooting for the stars . I placed 7th in the Time Trial and 37th in the Road Race .
Though these are not the results I set out to achieve , the journey I have taken on the way has taught me invaluable lessons and has enriched my life enormously .
