2016 has been another strong year for the Guildford Grammar School Media Program . We have continued to see strong results in the overall academic achievement , with the Stage 3 students of 2015 placing strongly once again in their WACE results .
The students have achieved exceptional school based marks and are looking like they will perform well in their WACE examinations .
The Media X students were introduced to filmmaking through the science fiction genre and the construction of short film narratives , allowing them to develop their camera techniques . The Media Y students continued to focus on video games , producing their own video game reviews and developing proposals for a future video game . In the Year 10 semester course , the students developed their skills further with a focus on horror film sub genres , scripting and trailer production .
The Year 11 and 12 students worked very hard this year , with multiple students producing nationally recognised productions , including music videos , artistic films and documentary films . Some highlights for the year include Oliver Crofts ’ very personal documentary ‘ There ’ s Always Hope ’, which explores his father ’ s courageous journey back to health after a spinal stroke , Matt Rovis- Hermann and Ben Reynolds ’ surrealist and expressionist influenced film ‘ Cellar Door ’ and Julian Armenti and Thomas Duncan Plummer ’ s experimental and surrealist film ‘ Untitled .’ The students have achieved exceptional school based marks and are looking like they will perform well in their WACE examinations .
2016 also saw the beginning of the planning stage of the highly anticipated Guildford Grammar School Media Centre , which will be housed above the library . This exciting development is anticipated to include multiple media teaching areas , dedicated editing suites , sound editing booths , a green screen studio and viewing theatre . This state of the art development will help cement Guildford Grammar School as one of WA ’ s
leading Media programs and has the arts community very excited !
I would like to encourage all students to come and have a go at media in 2017 . It ’ s a relevant and interesting subject for students of the digital age to explore !
