interest rates, etc.) were sound
whereas with the Great Recession
everything collapsed to accentuate
the downturn in real estate. We’ve
come a long way during this 10
year recovery period but still have
room for improvement to reach the
sustainable growth in all segments
of the Commercial Real Estate
Market (i.e., Office, Retail and
Industrial).
The outside factors that affect
our marketplace including the
Federal Reserve and Lee County
Government have maintained
initiatives to support overall
growth nationally with the Fed’s
low interest rate policy and locally
keeping the impact fees at a
reasonable level respectively. Our
Economic Development council
remains active in attracting
new business to relocate their
operations and headquarters to the
Southwest Florida area. The City
of Cape Coral continues to grow
exponentially and the Downtown
Fort Myers River District has never
looked stronger. We also welcome
the addition of the incorporation
of the Village of Estero as Lee
County’s newest city with excellent
opportunities for additional growth
in South Lee County.
The question remains “Are
we there yet?.” I say almost with
much better times predicted for
the future and in the years to come.
Southwest Florida is our home.
With sustainable economic growth
coupled with the quality of life there
is every reason to feel excitement
and be proud for where we have
been and where we are headed.
