Visitors will enjoy more than 20 acres of historical buildings and gardens, including the Edison Botanical Research Laboratory and the Edison Ford Museum. Site historians offer tours throughout the day or visitors may choose to take a self-guided audio tour available in English, German, French and Spanish.
Daily river excursions offer visitors the opportunity to enjoy a river cruise aboard the M / V Edison Explorer departing from The Marina at Edison Ford. With certified naturalists and historians from Pure Fort Myers and Edison Ford, guests will learn the history of the Caloosahatchee, River, ecology and see dolphins, manatees, birds, and river life up close.“ You Can’ t Fake Fresh” at Pinchers Restaurant also located at The Marina, with every seat in the house offering a spectacular view.
The Edison main house, guesthouse and caretaker’ s house, as well as the Ford main house, the caretaker’ s cottage and the Edison Lab have all been restored and the 1929 historic landscape is evident throughout the property. The museum has an impressive collection of inventions, artifacts, special exhibits and archives.
In addition to providing the opportunity to explore the winter retreats of the Edison and Ford families, the site offers education programs, including summer camps, emerging inventors, and homeschool classes. There are monthly events, including painting in the gardens and art classes. Throughout the month of December, the estates are open nightly for Southwest Florida’ s spectacular annual“ Edison Ford Holiday Nights.” Special events such as car shows, film festivals and quilt shows are always enticing young and old alike.
The site offers opportunities for the public to enjoy its stunning park-like environment for weddings, corporate events and meetings. Families are encouraged to purchase Edison
Ford memberships for yearlong free admission to Edison Ford, as well as reciprocal entries to many gardens and museums throughout the nation. Members also receive discounts in the Edison Ford retail shops, camps, classes and special events.
The National Register Historic Site offers visitors of all ages to step back into“ Old Florida” and learn more about the world through unique historical, scientific and cultural experiences.

Edison Ford is a Florida Historic Landmark and the winner of the National Trust for Historic Preservation top award for preservation. In 2014 the Edison Botanical Laboratory was named a National Historic Chemical Landmark, the first in Florida.
