Art & Theatre
Alliance for the Arts is a local
art center where their passion is to
facilitate and nurture the creation of
arts and culture. They have a large
outdoor theatre where they have
year round community events such
as Italian Festival, Sunset Concerts,
Blues Festivals, & more. They have
various art classes for beginners as
well as advanced students and they
also have lots of things for the kids
too. From summer arts camps,
local theatre productions and family
movie nights, that are free to the
public, Alliance truly is a big part of
our community.
The Sidney & Berne Davis
Art Center is another wonderful
venue in downtown Fort Myers
and hosts local artists as well as
different charity & local functions.
Originally this historic building was
a post office and is a great example of
Neoclassical Revival Architecture.
The Art Center has undergone a
major restoration and the building
itself is truly a work of art!
Another experience not to miss
is one of the largest in Art Festivals
in Florida; ArtFest Fort Myers.
There are well over 200 featured
artists and there is a wide variety of
painting, sculpture, jewelry and so
more. A fabulous VIP party kicks
off the event with amazing food, fun
& of course art! This event is usually
held at the beginning of February.
Florida Reparatory Theatre is
an award winning professional
theatre company that is consistently
mentioned as one of the best theatre
companies across the country. The
play selection is incredible and the
performances rival that of Broadway.
The setting is the historic Arcade
Theatre which was originally built
in the Vaudeville days. Seeing a play
here is a truly unique experience
and one you would not to miss.
For much larger productions we
have the BB Mann Performing Arts
Hall and they bring in full blown
traveling productions of well known
Broadway plays such as Sweeney
Todd, Lion King, & Phantom
of the Opera, complete with the
moving chandelier. These are truly
spectacles not to be missed! With
4 levels of seating there are great
views for everyone and in every
price range. BB Mann is also home
to the Gulf Coast Symphony.
Another event that is unique to
Fort Myers is the Fort Myers Film
Festival. It showcases intelligent
independent films and features both
local and national filmmakers. The
Fort Myers film festival received
the prestigious Chrysalis Award
in 2015 and will continue to thrill
and delight audiences with their
unique film contributions. If you
are looking for something different,
this is it!
I have barely scratched the
surface with all there is to do in and
around Fort Myers. Fort Myers is
truly an amazing community and
there is something for everyone!
