“ In response to your request for copies of artwork made while a student at Keele, I offer a copy of about the only sketch I made at Keele. It shows the boiler house which was the view out of my window in 1960. As a work of art, it violates the simple rule that you should not split your painting into two halves. In my defence, I was recording what I could see out of my window.”

“ I have always been grateful for Keele’ s holistic approach to education which gave us permission to be ourselves and to be whimsical as well as serious.
Herbert the dragon, like me, was a long-term resident of Hawthorns, although briefly stolen( or liberated like library books?) by the Lindsay lot.
So, on retiring to Somerset, a beautiful county steeped in mythology, I was delighted to find that the Somerset flag depicted another rampant dragon, inspiring me to indulge my( Potteries induced?) love of ceramic and sculpture.
His name isn’ t Herbert, we are not on first name terms, but rather more long winded. I present for your perusal and edification‘ The Lesser Spotted Zummersetillian Gurt Worme’. Hope you approve, Herbert!”
