POLITICS AND APPLIED SOCIAL STUDIES , CLASS OF 1963
“ Anyone who graduated from Keele in the early 1960s is , by definition , no spring chicken . Yes , we were privileged .
“ Many of us actually lived in those famous Nissen huts ( and very warm , comfortable and functional they were too , in a time when home central heating was unusual ). The Students ’ Union was a slightly larger hut , atmospheric and fondly remembered by all . Our meals were provided : the Refectory closed on Sunday evenings , but at the beginning of term we were given boxes of ingredients for Sunday self-catering . Tinned tomatoes , baked beans and spaghetti were always included .
