Former Keele e student celebrates 20 years at the top with major international award
Paul Johnson, a former student of Keele from 1989 to 1996( BSc in Geography and Geology, and PhD in Glaciology) and the editor behind the world’ s first and most influential luxury travel blog, has been named the“ Best Niche Voice in Travel” at the prestigious TBEX Summit held in the USA.
The award comes as he celebrates a landmark 20th anniversary of his site, A Luxury Travel Blog. Launched from South Cumbria all those years ago, the blog has grown from a pioneering digital project into a global authority, serving millions of affluent travellers seeking the world’ s finest experiences.
At the international summit, which brings together the world’ s leading travel media professionals, Dr. Johnson was also shortlisted for the‘ Best Travel Blog’ title, cementing his position as a leader in the field. He was able to receive the award in person at the event held in Wichita, Kansas.
“ Winning this award in the US, especially as we mark 20 years of the blog, is a proud moment,” he said.“ When I started the site in 2005 from my home in the north-west, the landscape of travel media was completely different. To still be at the forefront of the industry two decades later – and to bring this recognition home – is incredibly rewarding.”
The award follows a number of previous accolades, including‘ Best Travel Blog’( Travelmole Web Awards) and‘ Best Travel Influencer’( Wired Magazine), in addition to being named“ one of the world’ s best travel blogs” and“ best for luxury” by The Telegraph.
