RIVERS
THE NANTAHALA
NATIONAL FOREST
HAS SOME OF THE
MOST BEAUTIFUL
RIVERS IN THE
NATION
Cullasaja
Fed from lake
Sequoyah in
Highlands NC, the
Cullasaja river is
located entirely in
Macon County. With several awe-
inspiring waterfalls and public
trails and parks along its banks
the Cullasaja should be a great
spot to visit.
The Nantahla is
also fed from a
man made lake
and is a dam
released river.
Staying at a chilly 45 degrees year
round this river is still one of the
best fishing spots int he region as
well as a hot spot for rafting and
kayaking!
Little Tennesee
The little Tennesee
is one of the
biggest and most
pronounced river
in the area.
Flowing right through center of
Franklin the little Tennesee not
only offers beautiful scenery but
also lots of fun including tubing
fishing and swimming.

River Monster
We have had some rain these past two seasons. A LOT of rain. We have
dealt with the mud, and the wet clothes, and the puddles all while knowing
what it will bring this spring. One of the best things it brings is the rushing
water in all of our beautiful North Carolinian rivers!
As these rivers run they bring life to all the life aorund them. The lush green
leaves start to sprout on their banks and spread like a fire through the
forests and farmlands bringing beautiful flowers, a lush canopy, and
ripened fruits and veggies that are juicy and bountiful!
With the green arriving all around us it's as if Mother Nature is giving us the
green light to go play! The rivers offer so much for us to do during the
spring and summer months! Almost all of the rivers in the county have local
swimming holes. Bust-your-butt-falls is a portion of the Cullasaja river that
turns into a natural water slide for local visitors! Kayaking, white water
rafting, Stand up Paddle boarding, fishing, tubing you name it!
Let's be honest spring,
especially here in the
mountains can be a little
chilly. In the early parts of
April we have been known to
have some brisk morinings.
While it may be a little
daunting to go swimming
there is one thing that these
rivers also bring that these
cool mornings can give you to
look forward to. Fishing!!
