YOU MAKE IT

HAPPEN

Christopher J . Devron , SJ President
Our lives have changed dramatically over the past eight months , just as life has changed at Fordham Prep . Just before we were forced to move to distance learning last March , our seniors were waiting anxiously to learn about college acceptances . Coaches were scheduling spring games and contests . Students in our Christian Service Program were serving meals and tutoring at POTS ; others were preparing to travel all over the world in our Global Education Program . Understandably , there was tremendous disappointment in lost opportunities . What a sacrifice we all made to stop the spread of the virus .
As we know , this summer , schools everywhere studied the risks of opening in person , and so did Fordham Prep . But we did more than simply study . We planned as if we would re-open , so that if the State gave us the green light , we ’ d be ready . When that call came , ready we were !
We opened our doors a full week earlier than any other year , and we were ready … ready with a Health and Safety plan that was widely praised and copied by other schools ... ready to welcome back every single student — even the sons of small business owners reeling from job loss and , for the first time , in need of significant tuition assistance .
In fact , while many other area schools made the decision to keep all students home , Fordham Prep welcomed more transfer students than at any time in five years . We were ready with best-in-class technology to support hybrid learning so that students who needed to stay home could learn as if they were sitting in the classroom . Ready with a committed and dedicated faculty who received dozens of hours of specialized training to adapt to our hybrid schedule and new technology .
