FALL / WINTER SPORTS RECAP
With some sports put on pause due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic , the Fordham Prep fall and winter sports season was limited to four total sports : bowling , cross country , soccer , and swimming .
Bowling
The JV Rams defeated Stepinac , sweeping all three matches to win the league title and defending their season-long first place position . The Varsity Rams went head to head against Iona for the league title , but were not as fortunate , getting upset in the league championship match .
Varsity Bowling : Ryan Weigle , John Rausch , Andre Thomas , Robert Menocal , Jaylon McDuffie .
JV Bowling : John Kirby , James Kirby , Declan Hunter , Daniel Vo , Jay Peralta .
Cross Country
It was a banner year for the harriers as they won the New York Archdiocesan Championship and the Jesuit Championship ( first time since 1969 ), finishing 3rd at the New York Catholic State Champs . Top performers were CHSAA Champions Myles Hogan ’ 22 , Eamonn Sullivan ’ 21 , Liam Dennehy ’ 22 , Lucas Moran ’ 22 , Dean Mayo ’ 22 , Matthew Febles ’ 22 , Quincy Foster ’ 21 and Dylan Zwick ’ 23 . The team was also invited to the Northeast Regional Meet .
Given the shortened season , the team turned out to be one of the best in Prep history , topped by their historic win at the season-ending Jesuit Championship .
Soccer
The Fordham Prep soccer team once again reached its usual heights , finishing second in the CHSAA standings with a 7-2- 1 and advanced all the way to the CHSAA City Championship , where they lost a tough 4-3 match to St . Francis Prep . The season highlight was coming back from a 2-1 halftime deficit versus Regis in the CHSAA City Semi-Finals to win 4-3 on a last minute goal by Colin Marment .
Congratulations to seniors Matt Ragde , Colin Marment , Aidan Murphy , Andrew Hasfal , junior Carter Tresgallo , and sophomore Will Lulka on being named to the CHSAA “ AA ” All-League team .
Swimming
The Fordham Prep swimming and diving team recently completed their season with the CHSAA City Championships at the Nassau County Aquatic Center . The team faced unprecedented adversity this season but refused to let it stop them . The team did not have a pool to train in full time all season long . Despite this , the group had an undefeated dual meet season , winning each meet in virtual fashion . Following their dual meet season championship , the team headed to the league championship meet , where they came up just short of their second league championship in a row . During the championship meet , the team recorded 22 state qualifying performances , 6 individual league championships , and concluded with senior Jack Kelly being named meet MVP after setting the league record in the 100 yard breaststroke . Additional individual champions included Tim Norris , Jason Amato , and Christian Miraglia . The 200 yard medley relay of Liam Flaherty , Jack Kelly , Brendan O ’ Brien , and Nicholas Speres set the state record for the event . Congratulations to the team on a great season !
