Amazing Work Last Year
Our
Did Some
Ernest Esparza ’11 did some heavy lifting for the Prep and its Young Alumni
this fall. Now in its second year, not only did Ernest originally conceive the
Alumni Flag Football Tournament, he heads the organizational committee and
this year he acted as photographer for the day while also managing to get
in enough touches to win the AFFT trophy for the first time. He brought a
half-dozen of his classmates to the Turkey Bowl Challenge Happy Hour and
brought in enough 2011 donors to wallop Xavier’s ’11 class donors 27-10,
and he made it to the Hall of Honor Induction Ceremony and the Father’s Club
& Alumni Poker Tournament in January. Ernest is currently in business school
while working full time, but he jumps at every opportunity to stay connected
with the Prep and help his fellow Rams young and old. He’s currently working
to organize an Alumni/Student minority mentoring program on behalf of the
Prep and shows no signs of slowing his fantastic commitment to the Prep.
Thanks Ernest!
It’s hard to find a Class Rep more involved in the Prep and it’s mission than
Sean McLaughlin ’95. He sponsored the City Champion Tennis team this past
year, and he was the co-host (with John Favale ’91) of the Prep’s inaugural
New York Athletic Club event on February 6th. Sean and John hosted fellow
Alums, current parents, faculty and staff as well as 30 perspective parents
for a look at what life is like as a member of the Prep community as well as
future outcomes for Alumni Rams. While looking fondly back on his days in the
Prep, Sean always makes the effort to stay connected to what’s happening
with today’s students and looks to provide opportunities for Alumni to make
a big impact on the guys in the building today. Sean’s busy this Spring getting
his classmates prepped for their 25th Reunion and as the Tennis Chair for the
25th Annual Golf & Tennis Outing, but he’s always willing to make time for his
fellow Rams and for the Prep. Thank you, Sean!

A Pilgrimage
in Spain
June 2021
Alumni and Parents are invited to join
us as we journey in the footsteps of St.
Ignatius to Loyola, Xavier, Montserrat,
Manresa and Barcelona.
The 7-night program weaves together
historical, cultural, and religious sites
and activities with time to explore
and savor the land, customs and food
of this majestic land.
In the New York Times bestseller, Baseball as a Road
to God: Seeing Beyond the Game, author John Sexton
considers “whether baseball can be a road to God for
some - not the road to God for all, but a road to God
for some.” At Fordham Prep, the role of sports has long
been seen as a critical component of the formation of
our young men precisely because it can be a “road
to God,” another setting in which they can find God
in all things. Through sports our students can come
to a greater appreciation of the many ways God has
blessed them and be drawn into deeper relationship
with those with whom they compete on the field.
Sports brings them a greater sense of wonder and
awe and challenges them to use their talents for God’s
greater glory (AMDG).
As we highlight Fordham Prep athletics and the
alumni who have thrived in our athletic program,
we are grateful for the critical role they play in our
mission and particularly grateful for the athletes and
coaches who embody that mission.
