On Saturday, senior Chris Balthazar broke a
49-year old school record, running the 200
meters in 21.78 seconds, ranking him 2nd
in the state this spring and helping lead the
team to first place at the Mayor’s Cup meet,
topping all NYC public and private schools.
Miguel Negrete continued his unbeaten
streak this season with a win in the pole
vault, with additional points coming from
senior Joe Salamone in the javelin, juniors
Niall Ryan and Janssen Rhea in the 3200m
run and hurdles respectively, sophomore
Rob Arellano in the high jump, and senior
Mike Coughlin and freshman Carter Tresgallo
in the pole vault. Congratulations team!
On May 11, the freshman outdoor track and
field team pulled off an unlikely upset of St.
Anthony’s High School, the CHSAA Catholic
State Champions, to take the outdoor title
by a score of 57-54. Myles Hogan broke a
9-year-old meet record to win the 3,200
meter run, earning him co-meet MVP
honors. Dean Mayo kicked off the meet with
a dramatic win in the 2,000 meter steeple
chase. Throwers Christian White, Marcus
Peterson and John Legasa combined to
score 15 of the team’s 57 points; the 1,600
meter relay of Michael Croke, John Annicelli,
Jacob Solis and Matthew Febles sealed the
victory with a second place finish in the final
event of the meet. Congrats to the entire
freshman team.

The outdoor freshman track & field team
successfully defended their title, winning
both the Archdiocesan and CHSAA City
Championship.
Congratulations to the Fordham Prep Swimming & Diving Team for
their performances at the 2019 CHSAA Championships! The team
came in 2nd overall, and finished the season with a 8-1 record.
Some notable highlights were new all-time school records in the
200 Medley Relay (Nick Torres, Jack Kelly, Jared Copeland, Claudio
Galea) where the team was named All American, and the 100
Breaststroke (Jack Kelly).
The team was ranked 8th in the nation in the national dual meet
rankings at the CHSAA Champs with outstanding performances
from Nick Torres (winner of the 200 IM and 100 Back), Ryan Maierle
(winner of the 500 Free), 400 Free Relay (2nd Place w/ Ryan
Maierle, Timmy Norris, Nicky Speres, Nick Torres), Timmy Norris (3rd
in the 50 Free), and 200 Free Relay (3rd Place w/ Jared Copeland,
Timmy Norris, Claudio Galea, Ryan Maierle).

Congratulations to the 18 Fordham Prep seniors who signed letters of
intent this past February to play a collegiate sport this upcoming Fall.
LACROSSE
Congratulations to Golf team members Tommy Pace ’20 and August
Alexander’19 who qualified for the NYS Federation Tournament at
the Catholic State Tournament.
