94) April 15, 1930: The Fordham Preparatory Alumni Association— distinct for the first time from the University— is born at a preliminary meeting in the office of student counselor Fr. Attilio Raines, SJ. Two temporary officers are appointed: C. Malcolm Wilson, Class of 1929, and Hilary Leyendecker, Class of 1930.
95) Summer 1931: Mr. Paul Carielli arrives at the Prep to begin his thirty-year stint as the sole maintenance man of Hughes Hall.
96) 1931-32 School Year: Under Coach Earl“ Zev” Graham, the Prep’ s basketball squad compiles a 16-1 record. Playing on the team is Victor“ Chick” Yanitelli, Class of 1933, who would enter the Society of Jesus and eventually serve as the president of St. Peter ' s College in Jersey City.
97) March 23, 1934: Scores of Prep boys turn out for the Prep ' s Interclass Boxing Tournament. The main event for the afternoon is the cruiserweight bout between“ Handsome” James Healy, Class of 1935 and James“ Big Jimmy” Clinton,
Class of 1934. The tournament had been arranged by Raymond Boller, Class of 1934, the brother of Vincent Boller, Class of 1936 and the uncle and godfather of Fr. Kenneth Boller, SJ, Prep president from 2004 to 2013.
98) April 13, 1937: Fire drill at noon.
99) May 1937: The name Fordham Preparatory School is officially adopted as the school receives its own certification from the University of the State of New York
100) November 24, 1938: Thanksgiving: At the Turkey Bowl, Robert Abplanalp, Class of 1939, kicks the extra point, securing a 13-12 Prep win over Xavier. Some thirty years after his graduation, Bob and his wife, Josephine Sloboda Abplanalp, would be key figures in helping the Prep survive during the most tumultuous period in school history.

1940s

101) October 22, 1941: With the blessing of the new principal, Fr. Joseph O ' Connell, SJ, Prep students publish the first issue of a new school newspaper, The Rampart.
102) August 1,1941: Before the U. S. had even entered the war, Pilot Officer Robert Minnick, Class of 1937, joins the Royal Canadian Air Force becomes the first Prep alumnus to lose his life in World War II. By the end of World War II, 39 Prep alumni would pay the ultimate price for freedom.
103) 1941-1942 & 1942-1943 School Years: The fledgling Rampart receives All Catholic Honors from the Catholic High School Press Association two years in a row. Writing for the sports department in these years are two future award-winning sportscasters: William O ' Donnell, Class of 1943, and Vincent Scully, Class of 1944. Bill would become the voice of the Baltimore Orioles, and Vin, of the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers.
104) April 1946: Joe Fox, Class of 1929, a stand-out on the track team during his own student years, returns to the Prep as a teacher and track coach after serving in the Air Force during World War II. To this day, in certain track circles, Prep runners are still sometimes referred to as“ Fox Trotters.”
105) February 1947: Edmund McHugh, Class of 1939, joins the Prep faculty to begin his long tenure as an English and history teacher. During his 42-year Rose Hill career, Mr. McHugh would wear many hats, serving as director of athletics, dean of the faculty, dean of student activities, assistant director of admissions, moderator of the Fordham Prep Fathers’ Club and executive secretary of the Alumni Association.
106) November 5, 1947: The following item appears in the“ Chalk Dust” column of the school newspaper:“ Fr. Tallon ' s office is the only place that retains its
