Admissions
On Wednesday, march 2nd, 280 boys registered for the
Class of 2020 and officially became part of the Fordham
prep community. From a geographic standpoint the vast
majority of the class comes from the prep’s traditional
feeder locations; Westchester, the Bronx and manhattan.
Compared to the Class of 2019, there is a 3% increase in
the number of students from the Bronx and a 7% increase
in the number of students from manhattan.
in fact, applications, acceptances and registrations
from manhattan residents are at an eight-year high.
St. ignatius Loyola School on 84th Street holds the
distinction this year of sending us more young men
than any other school with 18 of their boys choosing to
register at Fordham prep. The Class of 2020 is also
culturally diverse. Approximately 40% identify themselves
as students of color. We have seen increases compared
to the class of 2019 in the number of African-American,
Hispanic and Asian students. it is vital that Fordham prep
ensures that a Jesuit education remains affordable for
families. As of registration day, 45% of the class received
some form of financial aid or merit-based scholarship.
it is clear to me that Fordham prep remains a premier
destination for 8th grade boys. Almost 500 boys indicated
that the prep was their first choice on the new York
Archdiocese high school entrance exam. in fact, 80% of
the registered Class of 2020 did just that!
The buzz that the prep creates through its dedication to
academics, commitment to building a faithful community
and goal of sending boys into the world as men for others
is buoyed by our summer programs. About 45% of the
entering freshmen attended HAp (Higher Achievement
program) at Fordham prep in the summer of 2015, and
9 members of the class attended the prep’s Summer
Academy in 2014.
my first admissions season certainly went by quickly,
and i am confident that the Class of 2020 will be extremely
successful. Their acceptance to the prep is proof they can
achieve at a high level. i look forward to welcoming them
in September...and have already begun working on the
Class of 2021!
Hail, men of Fordham, hail!
