The East Wing Campus Enhancement Project By the time you read this, the final phase of the plan for the Prep should be ready to break ground. This renovation, known as the East Wing Project, will modernize the physical structure of the Prep into a position to best serve future generations of students. The East Wing Project began in 2017 when the Prep relocated the chapel to its current home on the third floor adjacent to the new technology offices and group study area. Upgrades were completed on the varsity locker room (named in honor of Christopher M. Duffy ’96) in 2018, and prior to that the lobby and Commons were modernized in 2015. All told, in the last five years the Prep raised and invested nearly $5 million on capital improvements. After completion in the summer of 2020, the Prep will have invested more than $10 million in facility improvements. As part of the master plan to enhance the campus, these improvements include: the Donnie Walsh Basketball Court, the Rowen Athletic Field, the relocation of the chapel, the renovation of the Commons, the Christopher M. Duffy ’96 locker room, the new lobby and the 3rd floor group work area and technology offices. To many graduates the Prep may now be unrecognizable. So, what does this final phase include? An enlarged footprint to support the 950 to 1,000-member student body began with the 4th floor expansion in 2010. The upcoming renovations will have an immense impact on the school. The master plan includes a renovation of seven classrooms, construction of four additional classrooms, a new counseling center and an admissions suite. Religious Studies and Social Studies classrooms are receiving a top-to-bottom upgrade. Gone are the moveable walls, old flooring and lights, and in their place are new ceilings, lights and ventilation, and most importantly, hanging projectors and TV monitors providing high-quality audio-visual technology in each classroom. The new admissions suite will provide a more welcoming environment for families and visiting 8th graders. The counseling center will help provide opportunities for greater collaboration and care of our students by bringing together counselors and clinical staff in one location. We asked alumni to share their thoughts on the East Wing Project. Mr. Corey Punter ’07, Associate Director of Admissions, Mr. Jenik Radon ‘63, Rev. Luke Sweeney ’92, a priest of the Archdiocese of New York, and Mr. TJ O’Sullivan ’98, College Counselor, shared their reflections on how vital the current improvements are. We are grateful to the alumni, friends and supporters of the Prep who have donated to this expansion and encourage those who have not yet done so to make a gift to support the East Wing Project.
