Fordham Prep Seniors Earn Competitive, Full-Tuition College Scholarships
Jeacy Espinoza, Dr. Patricia Lee (English) and Giancarlo De La Rosa,
Seniors Giancarlo De La Rosa, Jeacy Espinoza and
Roodharvens (Roody) Joseph have each earned a distinct and
rare honor this year. De La Rosa and Espinoza were both
awarded full-tuition college scholarships through an
organization called QuestBridge, while Joseph earned a
full-tuition college scholarship through The Posse Foundation. college selection processes. The Posse Foundation
extends to these students the opportunity to pursue
personal and academic excellence by placing them in
supportive, multicultural teams—Posses—of 10 students.
Posse’s partner colleges and universities award Posse
Scholars four-year, full-tuition leadership scholarships.
QuestBridge is an organization dedicated to connecting
the nation’s brightest students with leading institutions of
higher education. The student must be in the top 5-10% of
their class, received mostly grades of A in the most
challenging classes available and have strong standardized
test scores. Students then go through a rigorous process
which includes an application that details academic and
extracurricular accomplishments, two essays, short
answer questions, two letters of recommendation from
teachers in core academic subjects, a secondary school
report from their high school counselor, an optional
school profile, transcripts and standardized test scores.
From there, QuestBridge selects finalists and asks them to
rank the preferred colleges they would like to attend.
Students are then matched with a college; De La Rosa was
matched with Bowdoin College and Espinoza with Yale
University. Nationwide, thousands of students are nominated
annually for a Posse scholarship. From September
through December each year, Posse conducts the
Dynamic Assessment Process (DAP), a unique evaluation
method designed to identify young leaders who might be
missed by traditional admissions criteria, but who can
excel at selective colleges and universities.
Founded in 1989, The Posse Foundation identifies high
school students with extraordinary academic and
leadership potential who may be overlooked by traditional Ramview asked Giancarlo, Jeacy and Roody about their
scholarship experience, their time at Fordham Prep and
what they are looking forward to as they enter college.

Using non-traditional forums to evaluate potential, DAP
offers students an opportunity to demonstrate their
intrinsic leadership abilities, their skill at working in a team
setting, and their motivation and desire to succeed. In a
three-part process, including large group and individual
interviews, Posse staff and university partner administrators
ultimately select a diverse group of 10 students for each
college or university, thus forming a Posse. Joseph will be
attending Middlebury College in the fall.
