one saw Trump winning this election including his own team.” When reflecting on potential reasons Secretary Clinton lost an election so many believed she would win with ease, Mr. Cuomo cited the idea that “Democrats lost touch with their base.” CNN anchor Chris Cuomo spoke to Fordham Prep juniors about his experience working in the media. Mr. Cuomo currently covers international events and breaking news for CNN and anchors the network’s morning show “New Day.” Mr. Cuomo is a graduate of Fordham University School of Law, and received his undergraduate degree from Yale University. In December, Mr. Cuomo paid a visit to Fordham Prep to deliver a speech and answer questions from the junior class. Mr. Cuomo, the son of former Governor of New York, Mario Cuomo, and brother of current Governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, spent forty minutes speaking to and answering questions from the junior class. It did not take much time for Mr. Cuomo to dive into the topic of the 2016 election, specifically the astonishing victory of Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton, stating “No After speaking about his career and his take on bipartisan politics, Mr. Cuomo opened up the floor to questions. He provided some very professional advice to a student who asked about a journalist’s role in debating opposing political views. Mr. Cuomo advised against ad hominem arguments, adding “There should be a decency to what [one is] saying.” When questioned about the rising nationwide distrust of the mainstream media, Mr. Cuomo responded by noting “The trust level [of the media] is so low it has nowhere to go but up.” Following this question, the discussion shifted after a student asked Mr. Cuomo about CNN’s bias against Donald Trump. “Did bias play a role? Yes. Why? Because humans played a role, [and] humans are flawed,” responded Mr. Cuomo, also adding that “People gave Trump too much time early on because he was driving ratings, and because there was not enough testing [of Trump’s candidacy] early on, they had to try to balance it out later on.” Chris Cuomo Visits FP At the conclusion of the assembly, Father Devron spoke briefly to the juniors. He thanked Mr. Cuomo for his time and pre sented him with a Fordham Prep tie, among other items, from the Prep Shoppe. Thank you to Dr. Gelpi for organizing this important opportunity to give the gift of life. 55 students and 5 teachers slept on the back field in November to raise awareness of homelessness through Cardboard City Night.
