Young Alumni Heroes of the Turkey Bowl Challenge From October 26 through November 23, 2016, Fordham Prep alumni from the classes of 2002 to 2016 were involved in the Turkey Bowl Challenge, a young alumni giving challenge versus Xavier. Through the duration of the challenge, several young alumni stood out in their efforts to get their fellow classmates and Rams to participate. We asked these alumni to say in their own words what it meant to them to be involved in the Challenge and why they feel it is important for young alumni to get involved. Fordham Prep salutes these young alumni heroes of the Turkey Bowl Challenge. I was involved in the Turkey Bowl Challenge through contacting fellow young alumni through various forms of communication and encouraging them to donate. I felt compelled to be involved in the Challenge because I was fortunate enough to graduate from Fordham Prep, have fond memories of my Alma Mater, and great friendships stemmed from and develop during my time at FP. Additionally, I want the next generation students to have the same experience.I encourage my Fordham Prep brothers to participate for the same reasons I did and reminded them of memories we have together as well as the friendships that developed because of the Fordham Prep community. — Adrian Mansylla ’09 There are few things as constant as my gratitude and fondness for my time at Fordham Prep. As a young alumni and class agent, I thought the Turkey Bowl Challenge was a fun and important way to support the Prep's needs and ensure young men today are able to experience the quality education and values instilled in me almost a decade ago. In this age of social media, letting my classmates know that we are doing something to support our alma mater has never been easier. It just takes a few minutes and a reminder that we are Men for Others! — Jan Michael Llanes ’08 After my brother became principal at Fordham Prep this school year, I felt the need to take the initiative to revitalize my connection to my alma mater. I simply posted about the Turkey Bowl Challenge on Facebook and then tagged all of my Prep friends from my year. Within no time, we were engaging with each other and started making our donations. Some kept increasing the amount of their donation while others kept urging others to donate. The Prep holds a special place in all of our lives and development as Men for Others, so taking the initiative was all that was needed to get our year donating…that and we all wanted to Beat Xavier! —Glenn S. Petriello ’03 I was happy to donate to the Challenge. Fordham Prep developed me into the man I am today, and I strongly believe in the school's wholesome education. Supporting the development of future Prep boys into men is a very worthwhile gift. Beating Xavier at the same time makes it all the more worthwhile. —Savino Brusco ’15 S P R IN G 2017 | 25
