Thus begins a renovation of nine classrooms, our administrative center, our nurse’s office, and the creation of two new classrooms, a counseling center, and a dedicated admissions suite and welcome area for prospective families and students. To accommodate these dramatic changes, we will expand our physical plant for the second time in 10 years. You may recall our first expansion involved moving upward: eight years ago, we constructed the Boller Science Center by building a fourth floor on the Prep’s existing roof. For the East Wing Project, we will push out the east envelope of the building and move toward the University’s tennis courts. With this three story expansion and the removal of an internal elevator, we will create larger classrooms and improve the flow of student traffic in several interior corridors. Christopher J. Devron, SJ President Igniting Our Mission, Fordham Prep’s current strategic plan, invites us to develop a learning environment that reflects excellence and brings our facilities into standards we expect of a state-of-the-art 21st century Jesuit secondary school serving an enrollment of 1,000 students. When Fordham Prep’s Shea Hall was built in 1972, it accommodated 800 students. The Prep’s growing desirability means that today we anticipate an enrollment of 950 to 1,000 students each year. Every day, our faculty push our students to grow and embrace excellence in learning and to exceed college-ready standards of academic achievement. Two summers ago, we completed the first of three phases of the East Wing Project.
