Track and Field Student-Athlete : Alfonso Pimentel ’ 24
My time as a student-athlete at Fordham Prep has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my four-year experience .
An unforgettable memory of my career as a track and field athlete was winning at Nike Indoor Nationals for the first time during my junior year . Going into the meet , the Shuttle Hurdle Relay team had done some research on our opponents and we knew that we were the second fastest team seeded . All of us understood that we needed to really push ourselves in order to win the gold and that is exactly what we did .
I am also truly grateful for learning how to incorporate my faith into my athletic career . Learning more about Christianity has helped me better understand myself on the track . I have been able to do more than what I was capable of , in my opinion , with the help of my Lord and Savior , Jesus Christ . Without Him , I would not have achieved what I did on the track or in the classroom . I also may not have had the opportunity to continue running track in college .
I chose to commit to Williams College because it was a great opportunity to receive an amazing education while also being able to do track at the same time . I never expected that I would go to Williams because at first glance it did not seem like a fit . However , after multiple conversations with the coach , and a lot of discussion with my College Counselor , Mr . Tejeda ’ 07 , Assistant Athletic Director and Coordinator for College Athletic Recruiting Mr . Hopwood , and Coach Febles P ’ 15 ,’ 22 , I realized that Williams was the right place for me .
I am thankful to have learned the importance of balancing a life of academics with a life of athletics and how to perform at my best in both . It is something I learned very early as a freshman at the Prep and have carried with me throughout my four years . I know those same skills will guide me during my time as a student-athlete at the collegiate level .
